I had an intake and header before I put on my custom exhaust. The gains were noticeable and it was quite a bit louder as well.
****edit*** the intake came well before the header so the noticeability of the gains were from the header. |

What brand of header did you use for your car? Would it fit onto an Echo or did they change the Yaris a lot from the Echo?

Header was also my second mod after an intake.

I'm not saying its pointless - but usually you want to improve flow on both ends - not just one...intake or exhaust.

Thanks guys, I was just wondering as a stand alone mod how good it was. Seems like it wasn't a waste of time by what I'm hearing.

A header was my very first mod...
...but not for long. It's a good place to start. As a stand alone mod, it adds some low end torque. I use the steep hill leading to my house as a reliable indicator as the grade is always the same and I drive it every day. The car noticeably climbed the hill easier with less throttle. With other mods, now it flies up the hill. Mods are like potato chips... you can't eat just one. Greg |

Car modifications add to each other. If you just put on a header, you get a certain gain. If you just put on an intake, you get a certain gain. If you just put on an exhaust system (axle back or more) you get a certain gain....
If you do ALL of them, it is more than the numerical addition of the gains individually. I did the weapon-R like tooter though I heat wraped mine (probably a waste but it was unique). I have heard that the weapon-R, Megans, and the DC sport are all about the same. I guess that is a point that could be argued. I chose the middle of the road as it wasn't the bottom but wasn't the top either. I think any of them are better than stock. Stock is really small. |

I have header and custom pipe with TRD muffler. I had been past smog with no problem. Having a header is not going gain any hp. The final things are have those parts work together and the right mixture. Just make it flows better and smoother. You will notice the sound when the VVTI is active. Its like bhaaaaaaaaaaa.

There are two parts to a smog test: visual inspection and there is an OBDII or sniff test.
If your smog guy will pass you on visual (header is pretty hard to see back there), you should pass the sniff test fine.
