How loud's too loud?

I've been yelled at before because my systems too loud in my subdevision. I have just got a new Eonon stereo. Im a new i can deal with that. But cruising down the main road today i had it loud, how i like it. Theres a guy in the turning lane when im going straight who honks at me, so being an idiot i honk back as i cruise by. I get back from the store and he pulls up in my driveway and tells me he knows people and im "gonna get it" my question is this...Do you guys think it needs to be turned down unless your the only person on the road? I keep it down in the subdevision cus i know its not a good idea but on the main road? Thats going a little far IMO.

It is too loud when other people have to listen to it in their houses. I like it loud too, and what I do is turn it on my system and listen to it from outside the car, to make sure it isn't loud enough to bother other people. The guy seems like he's a jerk to not have tried to talk decently with you before he got mad though.

If others can hear it, it's too loud. Period.

if its loud to people outside of your car when you have your windows rolled up than i would consider that too loud.. its a bit inconsiderate if you listen to music super loud with all your windows open. i mean who's to tell you how to listen to your music anyways? however i think cops can give you a ticket for disturbing the peace or some crap like that if its super loud. ive seen people argue with each other about how they play their music too loud. it gets pretty heated sometimes, but nothing ever goes down. iono you'll figure this out on your own.

Think of noise pollution like farts. You wouldn't want everyone around you to hear you fart in public(or maybe you would?).

I think if other people can hear your music from inside their car, it is too loud, but I'd take many things into consideration... where I live, I can hear everyone's music, so I keep it loud to drown their crap out.
However, if some dude is honking at you because your car is too loud, what is he doing, but adding to the noise?

be polite in your subdivision. blasting "your" music driving down the street is just stupid anyway, (advertising, come steal my stereo!!) and doing it where you live is like taking a poop in your neighbor's yard. not very polite.

Um. no. If you would like to apply that theory to car engines, lawnmowers, weed whackers, harleys, children playing in the street, and everything else in the world that makes noise, then ok. I hear all of those in my house, with the windows closed, on a daily basis

if you can understand the words from outside the vehicle (provided it isn't some jungle-monkey rap that you can't understand to begin with), it's too loud

We are talking about the volume of your music in your car... something you have complete control over.. and a simple situation where one needs to practice some small bit of consideration and respect for others... concepts that are apparently quite foreign to many in this country.

Hawaii has strict noise laws. If you're in violation, it doesn't matter what excuse you give. Find out what applies to you and follow it.

You have control over buying an aftermarket exhaust - Is everyone here that bought an exhaust inconsiderate? Electric lawnmowers are considerably quieter than gas, and sweeping is quieter and better for the environment than using a blower. Technically a manual mower would be the quietest and least polluting - You have control there too, but you don't respect me enough, so you just use your loud ass gas mower. Children certainly have control over their volume, and its definitely a matter of respect. Don't get me started on harleys.

Please don't vilify stereos, because you choose to let them bother you more than any of the other sounds you are accosted with on a daily basis. I turn my stereo down in neighborhoods, but I'm not going out of my way to keep everyone in the world from hearing it.

In order of frequency, things I get woken up by:

1)harleys
2)kazoo exhausts on cars
3)the marching band at the high school at 6:45 AM
4)lawnmowers at 7 AM
5)loud stereos

I have an after market sys in my Celica.....Kicker amp, Kicker sub and new speakers.

Now, I am considerate and keep the volume down when in my neighbohood etc.

However, when on a main road I turn it up at times, I will turn it down out of consideration if I pull up along side another car (like at a red light) and we both got our windows rolled down.

Bottom line... A little consideration and respect for your fellow man/woman goes a long way.

If the car next to you can hear and/or feel your music, it's way too loud. I'll admit, I like to turn up my music, but if I'm in a residential place (or any where else other than the freeway), I'll have it turned down.
