I seen a T.V. commercial for VALVOLINE " SYNPOWER " that it gives 4 times better protection to your engine than MOBIL 1 . True ?

You missed the part about the extra snake oil polymers that are required to get the wider viscosity rating and how they react under stress and heat, besides, owner's manual states 5w30 not 0w30 for the Yaris

This is because Amsoil and Mobil1 and all the others disagree with him. You see, Amsoil is the best and it makes 0W-20 and 0w-30 and tens of thousands of cars using it are not failing. In addition, UOA for those oils shows very, very low wear...so much for the "molecues cannot stretch" comment. I would suggest we all pay a visit to BobIsTheOilGuy.com and read the forums on oil there....a lot of superstitions will die if you do...at least they did for me. |

...you claim that 5w20 is "TSB'd" for the Yaris (you're thinking Scion XD?), and you wrote that you use 0w (wouldn't matter if a 20 or 30 followed because my Yaris owner's states 5w30 only)...so, to follow your rule number (3) start using the "correct viscosity" if you're still expecting to see that 300k miles on your motor.

there is an Technical Service Bulletin by TOYOTA giving the o.k. for 5w-20 in '06 and beyond . Got the T.S.B. sent via e-mail from the assistant manager of service department where we bought the '08 YARIS sedan , made copy of it and put with our paperwork . We're using PENNZOIL Platinum 5w-20 in it for this stretch , haven't decided to continue it's use . So , call your TOYOTA service center for verification of T.S.B. in their computer system , number is EG018-06 .

And if you live in CA why worry about those "cold mornings flows"...besides, in that TSB that you're swearing by, take note of the note @ the top of the page: "The recommended viscosity grade for this oil differs according to vehicle model. Use the recommended grade specified on the oil filler cap or in the Repair Manual or Owner’s Manual for each vehicle." |

"5w-20 is listed for Toyota and Scion"
Sorry. When I wrote 5w-20 I was actually in agreement with you. The 0w-20 statement from the TSB was for those that might be confused into thinking that what goes for the XD engine somehow goes for the Yaris engine.

I personally run 5-30 Royal Triton (Purple). But I was just wondering is anyone using Redline Oils here? Mobil One, Ams, and Rp are three of the best you can get any of them and it would be a wise choice. Ams just makes some interesting blends some that last as long as 25,000 miles so essentially a once a year change for most.
