Echo or mazda2?

Currently have a 2004 echo RS hatchback with 330000km on it.

Found a still-new 2014 Mazda 2 GX convince pack (a/c, power locks/windows - - nothing mind blowing) for $12800. Technically it's certified used but it has 57km on it (not 5700 or 57000, fifty seven). Has comprehensive warranty to Nov 2018 and powertrain to 2022 and 140000km.

I drive about 40-45000km a year right now and my current echo DOES NOT have cruise or power windows and the a/c works most of the time...

I love the echo, but I'm wondering if I should get a new car as it's a great deal (12800 vs 18800 new new)

I drove the 2 yesterday and it's quite spritely as it's a manual...

Opinions?

Can't say much about Canadian pricing, but the Mazda 2 is a great upgrade to the 12 year old Echo hatch.

Great car, good price.

Now ask yourself how much longer the Vibe is going to last you and what you'll presumably have to do in short order for the larger family hauler.

I was seriously about to buy a used one but the negotiations didnt go through with the seller. I test drove it and it felt good. I like that it has a timing chain and the instrument panel was nicely laid out. However, the rear seating was a little cramped but it didnt bother me as no one really sits back there anyway. 57km is practically brand new! I'd buy it if you don't! See if you can get it down to $11k!

Basically, the vibe is being disassembled.

Echo was bought as commuter, but the 2 is a smoking deal. It still has the window sticker.

Interesting choice. Do you actually have it in your hands or just on paper at the moment?

Have you owned a VW before?

I wish you good luck but it was my experiences with VW that led me to Toyota.

Ugh, not a VW. Like NYC-SE, my experience with VW led me to Toyota. And as a VW mechanic once told me during one of the many times my VW was in the shop for repairs, VWs are great as long as you have a warranty. Good luck....

Highline is referring to the VW Sportwagen.

Back to the original question. It's a tough call. Only you know what condition your Echo is in. I know how much you love the NCP/1NZ platform, and I also know how itchy you can get for changing things up. If Echo powertrain, drivetrain, and body are relatively solid I say keep it.

The echo is in good shape but as you know, I'm in a condo now and it's a challenge to do any of my own work. I'm thinking a new car with warranty might alleviate some inconvenience associated with an old car breaking down.

And currently I don't think I'd have an issue selling the echo saftied and etested for what I've paid for it
