Throwing codes P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402, P2419

My Yaris is throwing the codes mentioned in the thread title. From googling around this appears to be related to the gas evaporation fume system thing. It sounds like it's quite expensive to fix. Since I don't live in a state with emissions testing or anything is there just a sensor I can disconnect/solder the wires together/otherwise manipulate to make the car think that it's fine so the CEL will go away?

It is your evap system. I think that's what controls your gas fumes and cycles it back into the tank. You may also have issues filling up gas.

I read some places say that it can be caused by the gas cap, but I last filled up about a week ago (I've got 3 bars left) so it seems odd that it would just now show up. The last time I got fuel the pump was insanely slow (like seriously, it took 14 minutes to fill up) and it ended up overflowing (I guess it was too slow for the shutoff valve to detect or something). Could that have still caused this problem even after it's been so long since I filled up?

I had a similar issue at the pump a week or two ago, but haven't had any codes thrown.

Browsing the repair manual shows that the only electrical components are a butterfly valve in the cannister and a valve next to the intake (the blue cap widget that goes in the vacuum lines between the TB and somewhere else). Not sure if that helps, but there are diagnostics for those components in the manual. Other than that, I don't have specific experience with any of those codes.

top off

BTW, just curious if you top off your tank? That can cause your evap to fail.
Some of the gas pumps as well as Toyota advises never to top off. After first click off, holster the pump.

I generally do top it off. I hate having to stop and get gas.

Live and learn, I guess. Topping off does not really add much to your travels when you consider the damage it causes. Good luck.

There was a TSB for that exact combination of codes for 07 (EG048-07). The issue was a waterlogged canister due to a the fuel pipe cover not preventing water intrusion. I don't believe that the TSB was ever revved for 09.

. While Toyota wouldn't have included that caveat unless it sometimes happens, how often does damage resulting in a needed repair really occur? I've been doing it over three times as long as you have., and I've never had any problems. To me, knowing that my MPG figuring over that period of time has been accurate has been worth the risk.

Hmm, it has been raining a lot lately. It was practically a monsoon the day the codes started.

Cranked the Yaris up today to go to lunch and the CEL went off. I've fired it up a few more times going places for work and so far it hasn't come back on. Maybe it was just a fluke during that rainy mess.

Hi all, I have these same codes on my 06 hb. (285,000 km, sometimes top it off, but the canister is dry & fills easily. We do not see or smell any gas leaks).
System does not hold a vacuum & leaks pressure at the filler cap (1 psi).
How much pressure should the system be able to hold?
Gas cap vacuum valve will hold aprox 2-3"hg.

First thing I checked was the purge valve in the intake system, it was open. During testing it closed & I have rechecked it and it was still closed.

Then pres tested gas tank. sprayed everything with soapy H20. Only leak I found was the gas cap seal. ( looks like it Is not mean to hold psi).

Vac tested entire system & will not hold anything.
Does any body have any answers? or knowledge or manual for indepth testing?
Any help would be appreciated, Jason

That will do it. I had a prior vehicle that had a tiny bit of corrosion on the filler tube inlet that prevented a perfect seal with the cap.

there is no corrosion inside or outside of the filler neck. gas cap seal looks ok. vac tested using a rubber plug still would not hold.

Hi all, I think I fixed the codes. I added an o-ring to the back side of the gas cap seal, and lubed the seal. After clearing the codes, for a day or two the car logged a code for small evap leak. For a week now it has been passing the the leak test and no codes. I think the gas cap also broke internally trying to make sure it was tight, no longer clicks.
During my testing I think I found the leak pump "weak". it would only draw down to about -15-17mhg?...

When the car logged the "small evap leak" code I jumped the gun and got a used canister assm for $75. I will just wait till it codes again before putting it on.

I had to change the evap canister. It's been good since.
