2-year maintenance plan
I got this plan for free from Toyota when I bought my new Yaris a month ago..just curious, for those who has been driving for >2 years, how much do you think this plan is worth? (avg 15k/year)
Thanks! |

30k miles?
For me, 6 oil changes = $150 1 set of tires = $300 front rotors and pads = $200 But to be honest I would have to think a long time about putting the stock tires back on even if they were free. I'd probably have a tire place unmount them and sell them. I probably burned through my brakes and tires faster than the average driver, so you might not need them by 30k.. Might want to think about hitting a nice open parking lot to get some new tires before the end of the 2 year maintenance package. I bought a K&N filter reusable air filter so I just wash it, but you could save like 20-30 bucks having them change the paper one for free. I don't know if the cabin air filter is covered, since the yaris doesn't come with it. I get rotating and balancing for free with my tires, but you'd probably have to pay about 100 dollars for new car tires. Transmission fluid, coolant, spark plugs, serpentine belt, timing chain will all make it well past 30k/2 years. The 2nd 30k were much cheaper, as I got better tires(and discount tire pro rates the treadwear warranty on tires bought from them), and longer lasting brakes from microimage, for cheaper than the stock ones. |

I would base it on my maintenance budget over the first 2 years. (And yes - I believe that anybody who buys a car should research and plan a maintenance budget.)
In Chilliwack, BC Canada - where I just bought a 2010 Yaris - I was given a maintenance schedule. It stated that I should budget about 2 cents per KM driven. Thus - 2 years of average driving would amount to 40,000 KM's = $800 Canadian + 12% HST. $896 CDN = $931.84 US (based on rates - 14:23 / 12/7/10 PST) Anyway - according to what my dealership gave me - $896 is roughly what I should budget for my 2010 Yaris - across 2 years of normal driving (or 40,000 KM's - whichever comes first). That amount is either too high or too low - depending on the driver. Why don't you ask your dealer or sales rep for a maintenance cost per mile? (It's an interesting anecdote at best.) |

You burned through brakes in 30,000, I damn you brake to hard. I'm on 81000 miles and still have the orginal brakes, they still have 70 percent on them. Serpentine belt should last about 100,000 and the timing chain should never need replacement. Tires maybe, but I got 48000 out of the orginal tires and the dealer put a new set on for free. Probably a good deal if your had on a car like this poster. |

I got that free maintenance plan also, but I was under the impression it only includes oil changes and tire rotation. And they won't change the oil but only every 5000 miles.

One other thing. I saw a commercial for the maintenance plan and its 2 yr/ 25k miles. So you won't get to 30k. I highly doubt the average driver will burn through tires or brakes under 25k, so basically the maintenance plan is about 200 bucks. |

I'm at 170,000km and the most expensive thing I've had to do was one big service (tranny flush, coolant flush, oil change).
