It seems like the defroster grid would keep the blade free from ice build up when its in the up position.

Dear God, it's been three years since I last posted in this thread and I've still yet to do this mod!

The wife and I went to early vote last week and I saw a Yaris hatchback in the parking lot that had this mod done, which got me to thinking about it again. Given how much dust there is in south-central Texas, this seems like it would be something good to do. We recently had some heavy rain and as usual, my rear wiper was near useless because it spends 99% of its time being blasted by intense heat and crap building up on it.

So I'm gonna try and get this done this week. I just had Sprocket in my garage working on my headlights and doing a few other minor maintenance items, I wish I had thought about this beforehand as it would have been a great opportunity to do this. I can probably do it outside but given that all my tools are in the garage, it's much easier; I just have to move the Jeep out and bring the Yaris in.

Cheers! M2

Just found this the other day and did it Saturday. Loving the look and it seems to work great, just waiting for some rain to see how it really works.

Hi guys,

I'd love to try this one! Can anyone link to the service manuals mentioned, or provide with quick instructions on how to perform those steps that refer to the manuals?

Thanks!!

I think the blade will likely last longer in the up position too.

Gentlemen,

I'd like to warn you about a little problem that I encountered while doing this mod...

If you find a rear wipe electric motor that has torx screws on the cover plate... just give up and go home.

As you can see in the screenshot attached, there are no other slots/holes where you can mount the long arm. I stared at the thing for about 15 minutes to try and figure out a way of still doing the mod somehow... the only way I could think of was to "rotate" the shiny metal circle on the white wheel, but even the holes where that metal circle are fixed are assymetric... it's only meant to be assemble one way...

Very disappointed, I reassembled everything as it was...

If only I visited the second page earlier... Seems that European Yaris uses this Bosch motor and can't be modded. Maybe if we ordered an american wipe motor it'd work?
