Jack Stand "Rubber Attachments"?
In preperation for doing the first bit of personal maintenance on my 07 3dr LB, just an oil change, I've been reading through some of the Toyota factory manuals (FM) that have been so kindly posted here. In the introduction chapter, which includes information on jacking up the car, the FM mentions "rubber attachments" for jack stands. In the FM diagrams they just look like rubber blocks with a slit in them which would be set around the pinch weld. I presume these are to prevent bending the pinch weld where the jacks would normally go.
Question is, can I get these from my Toyota dealer's parts department or is this the kind of thing I could go to a comprehensive auto parts store and buy? |

Hockey pucks work great. I run them through the tablesaw a couple of times to put about a 3/8" wide by 1/2" deep groove in them.

Eh the worst place to jack up a car is at that jacking point. Find another spot. And when you jack the proper way to do it is to use wood to go in between the jack and the frame of the car.

Factory advised jack points?
Can you post a link to the FM or page/diagram which shows jack points - i'm curious as to the best points to jack the car.
Note: I really don't like the ones shown for emergency jacking in my 2009 hatchback manual. |

My aero sedan has the front lip. When I pushed my floor jack under far enough to reach the front jacking point there is insufficient clearance to pump the handle (up-down). When installing my TRD suspension I drove up onto blocks first before jacking and dropped it back onto the blocks afterward when the chassis/body was even lower.
The rear jack point is indeed quite handy.

Ive been lifting/supporting cars using the jack points for 30 years and never used a rubber thingy! What happens if the weight of the car splits the wood/hockey puck/rubber pad?

Wood worries me - I use a piece of 4x4 when jacking my lifted Xterra. If the wood split or rotated, the 3-1/2" of travel could be disastrous, so as I jack it, every couple of inches, I keep raising my jack stands. |

Ive heard of people using concrete blocks to jack cars up on and the concrete crumbles suddenly...
