Stock OEM front struts, aftermarket rear shocks? - Toyota Yaris Forums

Does anyone run this type of setup? Or do you have to replace the struts and shocks altogether? Thanks!

With the Yaris having so much of its weight up front (and being front wheel drive), the fronts are really more important for performance than the rears are.

Thanks, CTScott. I was wondering about that. I'm trying to dampen the rear cause it'll occasionally bottom out on dips on the freeway especially with people (I have a large sub box in the trunk)

I am not sure that rear shocks will completely cure that. The bottoming out is due to the springs fully compressing. Stiffer shocks will slow that process down a bit, but will still allow you to get to that point. I would think that stiffer springs (or something adjustable) back there would be the solution.

stiffer rear will get you more over steer. It could be very dangerous if you are inexperienced driver..

If you do get stiffer springs, be sure to use the same spring front/rear ration than OEM, unless you know what you are doing.

I'm running Eibach Sportline lowering springs right now.

^ Now he tells us. LOL. So yes, you are lowered and bottoming out, with passengers and an audio system. Sounds about right. Stiffer rear shocks will help, but Tokico HPS blues may not be enough. HTS reds are adjustable, I'd have to check to see if I can get a pair only.

You can also get shock bump stops or spring spacers to prevent the bottoming out, BUT there is a sacrifice in ride quality when they hit the stops.

Haha, yeah that info probably would have helped. Thanks for the info. And yeah, rear passengers + audio system = bottoming out on dips DUH!

I just won't drive anyone in the back anymore... do you have a 2 seater conversion, cali yaris? hahaha, jk
