Nostalgic Subcompact: Dodge Colt, Mitsubishi Mirage, and their cousins
Wrote a little piece about the old Dodge Colt/Mitsubishi Mirage, and it's Eagle and Plymouth cousins. For the record, I totally want a Colt/Mirage turbo (I always have). Truly, any of the bodystyles would suffice, although, I kinda have a thing for the '85 Colt GTS hatchback or Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo hatchback (like above). It's pretty hard to find photos of this generation. http://www.subcompactculture.com/200...odge-colt.html

Were these FWD? I actually think these look pretty damn good. Reminds me almost of an AE86 Levin, but with a bit more edge. Wouldn't mind finding one of these myself

Here's a link you might find entertaining. It's filled with pictures of Mirages from that specific generation: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%26um%3D1&um=1

There is one of these that comes to our local shows from time to time. Hopefully he comes tonight so I can snap a pic. They're win.

In its day (a quarter century ago..dear god) I recall a statement being made that turbo could out quarter mile a corvette. Is that true?

Well, if it was a corvette from the same era, then I don't really doubt it. They're really light, mind you.

I'm not sure if you guys remember them or not but last week at one of our little car meets we have here in Metro Detroit, one of the regular guys that shows up drives a 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS. If not your familiar with that car, imagine a Geo Storm with AWD and Turbo. It's really a rare ass car I suppose. Was telling me only about 800 of them made it over and probably only about 350 still running/alive.
When I asked about the car, he instantly asked me if I wanted to go drive it and that it was only pushing 14lbs of boost. Told me keys are in the ignition and go for it. He was serious too. What a nice guy. Overall I just asked him to take me for a spin in it because I'm not too familiar with driving turboed vehicles and would rather not, especially with something so rare. |
