It worked the first time, I was really involved with that one when gas was an astounding $1.59/gal. Whether or not it works, it does send a message.

Yeeaaaah.... I'm still not quite sure just how those economics are supposed to work out. So they lose a ton of money 1 day. How does that matter when the sales double in the following days (gotta' get that gas sometime!)?

Exactly! So gas stations will gain business the day before and the day after the boycot. By driving the most fuel efficient gasoline powered car in America, we are already boycotting the gas stations.
Anybody seen those "Binladen hates this car" bumper stickers. Maybe they're reserved for the Prius. |

Notice how that article had NO mention of any positive actions of the no-gas day??? Sounds like a hummer guy saying hybrids are not really economical. I participated in the first no-gas day. Of course gas stations are going to say that it had no effect. Of course gas companies will say it won't do anything. Why would you trust them anyway, they want you to keep pumping that gasoline. The first time this happened. It DID have an effect! Gas prices went down almost 30 cents a gallon the next day, at least in my area. If enough people do it, it DOES work. Gas prices fluctuate every single damn day. The market is controlled by supply and demand. Refineries will keep producing that day, and if no one bought gas there would be more supply than demand, thus lowering prices. I don't see why some people have such a hard ass time NOT buying fuel one day. True, most of us did a great thing by getting a yaris. I'm saving about 1,200 gallons of fuel or more each year by switching over to my yaris from a astro van.

One day of not buying gas is not going to effect the price. As you said, it fluctuates all the time. Oddly enough it spikes around holiday times and then resumes to a "normal" level. The simple fact is that you need gas for your car to drive. Why are the bigwigs going to sweat about one day when they know you need that gas. There are tons of people who don't buy gas on a daily basis. You really think enough people participate in the boycott for their to be a significant drop? If anyone really wanted to boycot they should make it a month where everyone uses public transportation instead of their cars.

It does work, or at least prices went down the last time...
What public transpo? I have lived in 6 different cities and only one had any kind of real public bus/train system. Where I live now just has a few little electric buses to SLOWLY take tourists outlet shopping downtown... |

Gas is projected to hit $3.50 a gallon here in the US pretty soon. Thank God I didn't trade my Yaris for an MS3.

Already hit $3.599 here for chevron premium. Guess no more super good gas for my turbo LeBaron... I was going to drive it down to California this summer, but F that. Right now with how gas prices are here in WA and CA, it would cost me about $500 for gas.

The less gas sold the higher the prices because the oil companies "will" continue to make the same profit...they are not going to lose! Actually I think the more stupid people there are that buy gas hogs, the less profit the oil companies have to make off a gallon....so yea for stupid people!
And if you notice, the states that raised mega taxes on tobacco are complaining because their tax revenues are going down because of lack of sales, and a lot of these same states are looking at raising gas taxes to increase revenues...???? My Yaris is the only statement I have for the oil companies and wasteful government (and also for the US car manufacturers) that matters to me.
