On-board Computer display

just wondering what your computer does display as general information ? here in Canada we have only ODO, TRIP & CLOCK. However the display looks like it also could show the fuel consumption and the outside temp. Do you guys have those items displayed on your Yaris ?

Check-out the ScanGaugeII, which many of us use.

http://www.scangauge.com/

It plugs into the OBDII port and gives a significant amount of info - but not the outside temp. The "intake air temp" is probably the closest, but it's not true outside temp.

I find that ScanGaugeII FIA (air temp.) reading is very close to outside temp when the engine is first started

Pretty simple set-up - just plug it in to the OBDII recepticle and 15-20 sec's later it comes to life. Routing the cable for a 'clean' install was the biggest job for me. MIne is velcro'd inside my driver's glove box.

I can open the glove box door to view when I drive, but my wife never has to look at it when she drives. It's a "guy thing" as she would say.

And - yes, it is darn accurate as to the outside temp. when the engine is cold.

Interesting
But... if it reads from the ECU, that mean the ECU is already set to compute thos infos... why it doesn't not also display them on the cluster it has to be plugged or something

Not sure what you are saying. The ScanGaugeII only reports what they have programed it to show.

well, i guess it's the ECU who computes, say, the MPG, so the ScanGauge only display it. Then what's missing to have this information directly displayed on the Yaris cluster ?

Probably some kind of programming, it seems that the clusters for different markets all have different features, and inside, some have different LCDS and different EEPROMS, there's really no telling how we would enable these features, but I'm sure you'd have to reflash one or more of the EEPROMS to do it. From what I've been made to understand, the plugs on all the liftback gauge clusters are the same, it's the clusters themselves that are all made differently.

I got the outside temp and direction compass rear-view mirror option!

fucking love it... i dunno whut id do w/o it. best additional money i ever spent.

i just need to know direction when im in Toronto, and having the outside temperature is just too nice and convenient to pass on.

Did you sync the compass by programming it for your region?
