My 2000 yaris cd/radio has no sound- please help!

I've just bought a toyota yaris gls (2000) and I can't get the cd or radio to work.

When a cd in in the system, it reads it and the seconds of the playback tick by on the LCD screen but no sound. The previous owners say it was fine before the battery died, evident perhaps by the cd they left in the car. Any ideas?

I have tried the ^ button while holding 1 (which I think is a preset radio station button) but so far no joy. The mode and other buttons (arrows etc) all work but nothing happens when I press the off/on or radio/tape/cd

Suggestions much appreciated!

Check to make sure they did not remove the speakers before selling the car. If the speakers are there, you could try disconnecting the radio or the battery for a minute to reset it. If that doesn't work, then I would think that the output amplifier is bad within the radio.

Thank for the advice, if the speakers are there, is it fairly simple to disconnect the radio or am I better off going to an auto centre? Was hoping for a DIY fix after the attack on my back account from buying the car!

Pulling the radio just requires pulling off the trim around it with your fingers and then removing the mounting screws. Disconnecting the battery just requires a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal.

Yes there are many DIY videos on youtube on how to remove the stock radio. I can understand that if you just bought the car you don't have a big budget but if the radio is dead you can buy great sounding head units for under 200 bucks. I'm getting a new Kenwood today w00t!! :)
