Exclamation Yaris Noises and Rattles

2007 Yaris HB 5speed 95,000 + miles in 2 years

1. Squeaky Shifter- Spray gel lube sprayed on shifter linkage cables and near shifter and also inside engine bay near shifter linkages. No more squeaks.

2. Loud banging sound near the top back of the hatchback- Remove the center seat seatbelt holder near the top center of the hatch. This part has no option but to make a loud banging noise when you hit bumps. I tried buffering the noise with duct tape but the only way to take that loud noise away is to remove the components of the center seat belt.

3 Fenders in the back and front rattle- Balls of duct tape work wonders at holding squeaky parts together . Sticky balls of tape hold the inside fender wells together over bumps and reduce the confusion of sound an old yaris makes.

4. Remove every and all plastic components and cover the larger positioning clips with electric tape as to reduce their chatter at high speeds on rough roads.

5. Rubber coated inside the rear hatch and covered the lock components with rubber coat. Very good sound dampening effect. Rear lock components rattle like MAD...

6. TRD sway bar- makes every rattle amplify ten fold. Necessity tho...

7. Tanabe Medalion axle back- Rattle maker!!!

8. Weapon-R Ram Air Intake- Rattle Equalizer !!!

9. Front strut tower links- Makes the rattles go away a bit. Maybe the suspension is working better.???

10. Bob Marley on the radio and no awful rattling sounds from my worn yaris!!!

My top ten Yaris Rattles.

The only thing that really rattles in my car is the cargo box covering the spare tire. It's really annoying. I think I'll take it out tomorrow:D

The only rattle in mine is when my wife has a nearly empty Diet Mountain Dew can in the passenger cupholder.

Actually, I'm pleasantly surprised that such a cheap, econobox like the Yaris is completly rattle free and and has a relativly solid feel on the road.

No, no rattles. However there is a bit of an echo due to the cavernous interior.

I'm starting to get the dash rattle... plan on taking it in soon for the TSB... If they don't honor, or try to charge me... I might just do it myself... Have around 31,000 miles so far.

Sometimes the driver side door will resonate a bit from just driving... That will be easily cured once I open them up and throw sound dampening and speakers in there.

you are supposed to tuck the 3rd seat belt inside the roof. I've tried it and it is relatively easy to do.

It's interesting that you mention a shifter "squeak." I've been getting a squeaking noise every time I shift out of 3rd gear; sometimes when I shift into 3rd as well. I'll have to try some lube on the shifter linkage in the engine bay and see if it makes any difference.

I got the dash rattle fixed.

Now I have an intermittent rattling sound from the front end occasionally when I brake. I didn't seem to have this rattle until I had the 15,000 mile service where they cleaned the brakes or did something. It's a click or light clunk. It's definitely not the ABS, although it's a somewhat similar sound.

I have a metallic rattle in the engine bay at 2k and 4k rpm only when in gear. That's it as far as unusual sounds.

What did you do to fix the dash rattle?

suspension squeaks

Sorry to bring up such an old post, but since we were talking about noise or lack of in the Yaris...thought I would talk about my latest.

I drive alone 90% of the time and there is no issue. With one passenger it happens sometimes and with 2 it is a sure bet. When driving over bumps...usually at slow speed in parking lots or entering the roadway etc...I hear a squeak or is it a creak which seems to be coming from the rear suspension to my best guess.

I have looked up under there without much hope of finding my problem. It is difficult (impossible) to re produce when parked so I don't know where to start. I am guessing a bit of lube in the right spot might fix it but am really pretty clueless at the time...any ideas? Thanks

The Yaris does make a lot of noise. It wouldn't hurt to lubricate everything, but beyond that it would really be hard to tell what it could be.
