Yaris 1.0 CDX Or Polo 1.4 Match

oth come in at about the same price w/ insurance for me.

Question is - Yaris or Polo?

I already have a Polo R Reg 1.0L and enjoy driving it

But I want something a bit newer - and Ive got it down to between a Yaris and a Polo.

Opinions please :)

Well this is a Yaris forum..... so not many of us will say the Polo
but I would take Toyota reliabilty over VW's gremlins anyday

It's no secret that VW is a company struggling to survive. VW reliability, cost of maintenance and repairs, and resale value is certainly nothing to write home about.

On the other hand, Toyota...

Gee, this is a no-brainer!

Except over here in the UK, Yaris has a reputation of being a bit camp or driven by old people.

Besides, my mate works for VW so can get me discount on bits.

I did a for and against chart last night for each and asides from costing more on insurance, couldn't find anything wrong with a Polo. Up to 2002, Polo's were still reliable - it's the 2002-2007 models that have started being a bit shite. Ive never had a problem with my 1997 1.0L asides from a missfire.

Yaris on the other hand are bit less sturdy in the bends (I understand they fixed this on the 07 model, but I can't afford one of those.) Dont feel as sturdily built (they probably are, but they dont feel it) and costs £500 more in the first place.

And granted, it's only a car to get me pretty much to and from work, but why have a fairly camp CDX when I can get a Polo for a bit less.

Both cars have the same amount of options and both are 5 doors. Yaris has higher MPG, but Polo's still high at 44.

I asked the same question on Polo forums and obviously, they said Polo.

Yaris was a very close contender in my choice and Ive tried to factor everything in, but Id just rather have a Polo I think. If insurance on the Polo was about £400 dearer than it likely will be, Id pick a Yaris hands down.

But at this point, Ill be getting a Polo. Only thing I haven't entirely factored in is actual reliability (I know they both are, but I don't know what common faults are,) but I have a feeling it'll still be a close call.

Just done a bit of research

00-02 Polo 1.4 Matches are prone to the clutch going or gearbox ballsing up. All of a sudden, a Yaris for £500 more and though the radio goes a bit haywire - are more reliable.

My decision seems to change daily

VW's aren't just as well built as they say they are.
If i see a VW there's always 1 light broken, even it's a new car.

And if i see a broken car it's usually a German of French car, VW is number one.

And a VW Polo looks really boring.

I say, the Yaris but my opinion isn't really honest off course because i have 2 Yaris's :D

Good luck with your choice, try asking it at a forum that's not Toyota or VW ;)

Hmmm... that's interesting. In Japan, the Vitz is the hottest car among young people!

And, BTW, it's not just opinion that Toyota builds the better car; it is a fact that Toyota builds the best car. Period.

Just bought a '51 1.3 GLS. Bit more than I wanted to pay but I got myself a good bargain.

Is to CDX spec (so has everything on it)

Screen price was £5,500
After haggling, money off, my part exchange and the deposit, total amount payable is £3,800. Poor Toyota salesman shouldn't have served me.

I got a good car AND a good deal!

objective OPINION, at best...definitely NOT fact...i bought a toyota cause i believe in their products but i've had a civic for the last seven years and wouldn't sneeze at nissan either...then you bring the higher class car manufacturers into the mix (when not considering cost) and it becomes a discussion based on experience and preference...

What does a Proton GLS have to do with a Toyota salesman? And by " '51 " did you mean a 1951 model?!

On a different note, while Proton isn't an outright bad manufacturer they are not even close to Toyota's or Honda's reliability records.

Im from the UK.

UK car registration information :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_car_number_plates

After 2001 on a 'Y' plate or for example Y840 KDC we changed to this style :
DU51 HKM
Start of 2002 :
DU02 PST
Late 2002 :
DU52 PMX

Basically first 2 letters = town registered in, first number = jan to july or sept to dec (0 is jan to july, 5 is sept to jan) second number is year (1 = 2001, 9 = 2009)

Last 3 characters are serialised by the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency)

My reg is GU51 HBO.
Looking online, my car was registered in Brighton between September and December 2001.

It's a Yaris 1.3 GLS.

www.parkers.co.uk have complete technical details on ALL cars, trims and their extras available in the UK made after 2000

My car : http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/...px?deriv=20659

The site comes in very handy weighing up a new car, add to that NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) and you have a free way of looking up specs on new and used cars without needing a brochure or needing to talk to a pushy salesman.

i had a '97 GTI. never really had any problems with it other than a bad heater-hose (and something that attaches to it, forget what it's called). but yes, i would rather take a Toyota than a Volkswagen. however, let's not forget that VW is the parent company of Audi, Lamborghini, and several other companies.

as for looks, i actually like the Polo, especially the GTi version.

i don't know which years they made it with the bug-eye headlights tho.

and for the Yaris, i've had mine without any problems (at least Toyota related).

Isn't VW Polo made in China?
I would stay with Yaris.

VW is German. Some are made in Malasia, some in Germany, some in Spain. For build quality, German > Spanish > Malasian. Mine was built in Spain and hasn't had any problems.
