Manual shifter Mod....

Just wanted to know if anyone knows if it is possible to remove the rubber covering on the manual shift stick? Has anyone been successfully at changing the bottom rubber cover on the manual shift knob?

I want to change it into a black leather cover because I really don't like the rubber factory covering. If anyone has any info please let me know. Thanx.

The picture shows the part that I'am talking about.

Sorry to be slightly OT here...

But the RS Yaris has an Accordian Rubber boot?!

There's probably a way to remove the boot (aka cover) and install a leather boot shifter.

My guess is to remove or loosen the moulding around the shifter and boot, and remove the rubber boot from the inside. Probably a few screws to hold it in place on the bottom, and maybe a ring at the top of the boot where it meets the bottom of the shift knob.

There's a plastic ring around the bottom holding it in. It's very easy to remove.

Yes, but the questions is what would you replace it with? It's definitely the one part of the Yaris interior that makes it seem very cheap.

I am sure you can buy aftermarket leather ones.

With the proper bezel to make it look like it belongs there? Haven't seen one yet, but if you've got a line on one, lemme know...

I'm pretty sure you can get MOMO or RAZO or other manufacturer boots.
They make universal Shift Boots that work with just about any vehicle.

I don't have my Yaris yet, so hopefully there will be some fitted Shift Boots for the Yaris/Vitz when I take delivery in June.

I haven't yet, but I know a universal leather will fit. I agree that I'd like to see if there's one with a bezel. I'm thinking of just making my own by using the stock one as a template. Maybe someone else on here with more experiance could do something. I'd like to try my self, but I'm not a pro, by any means.

Yea I was also thinking of buying some leather at the fabric store and just try to make it myself. But I'am not a pro either, so if I can find a universal leather one I would totally do it. My friend has a Mini and her shift stick cover is leather, it looks so much better.

There is a site that makes custom shift boots in leather.
Very great site, I am using one of their shift boots I cutomized.
However, I dont know if it'll fit the Yaris, they make custom car ones, but it looks universal though.

Anyways, if you guys are interested, the link is:

I've really been bitten by the tuner bug. I've ordered a boot through this company, Lightning Auto Customs. I will take lots of pictures and post them when I get it. It ships tomorrow. They are great to deal with. I'm going boring, just black leather with black stitching.

Are they making any attempt to have it be customized to fit the Yaris as best as possible?

I'll let you know. I gave them all the measurements and even a scan of the bezel.
