Side door molding ?s
Hey when I first saw the yaris at the Chitown autoshow in winter of 06 the first thing that struck me was that it had no side door moldings, no trim, nothing to protect your barcelona red doors from looking like a blizard in hell 2 years from now, so im asking other yaris owners what do they do to avoid the dings and dents of daily driver ownership.

i got a 240sx now, it doesn't have side moldings either, and it's got more door dings than i can stand, my hope is the yaris is so small it wont be a problem, but someone will eventually park too close and ding me... I'm already dreading that day.
parking correctly doesn't help, once my friend parked perfectly in the middle of his space, when we came back to the car it had a chip of paint missing and there was a huge truck next to his car with the chip stuck to its door. my friend left them a note, using his key on their paint job. he's got a bit of a temper when it comes to his car. |

I have had 5 dents removed already. I park very carefully, far away from everyone and everything. Total cost so far $235.00. I have thought of getting the mouldings. I just dont like the look of them.

the mouldings ruin the lines of the car, imo.

Maybe I dont get them because I only park in my garage at home, or the private garage at work.... hence the sarcasim of "parking correctly in my spot.."

I haven't even seen the moldings... didn't know that was an option. Any pics?

For me, the problem is that side moldings only offer partial protection against dings and dents.

Went to the bank yesterday and parked in an EMPTY parking lot. When I came back out there was some huge brown van parked next to me on the passenger side - seriously the guy was about a foot and half from me, theres no way even Id be able to get out of it - no dents or dings however - must have taken them 20 minutes to get out...
Thats one of my pet peeves, a whole parking lot and some rusty turd parks inches from you..... anyway. |

Waaaaaaaaaaah!
My 240 got hit again! I went to the grocery store today and when I came out there was a new dent on the door, I assume it was the car next to me, but how can i be sure? I was in there a while... this mostly scares me for when my Yaris comes... i'm thinking I may want to get the side moldings for the sake of the car... my 240 has too many dings from doors to count...

I think I have seen that commercial on TV too. Kind of bitter and funny.
What a world out there?! The only way to protect cars would appear to be to garage them. That's not right. I remember that when I visited the dealership to buy my Yaris last year, I saw that many cars in the lot had something like a short section of transparent tube on their door edges. Must be a device to prevent dinging. Too bad such a thing won't be used after a car leaves the dealership's lot. Back to side moldings, I think the bulky black rubber ones (after market, I presume) provide better protection than the slim colored ones offered by Toyota. I have yet to see people bold enough to put them on the Yaris though . |
