I'm with cali yaris on this one, my '87 Celica GT-S has a limiter on it also, and it's set for right around 124-126mph. The last time I had the Celica at Virginian International Raceway for a Track Event, could not get above 124 on the 5400ft. back straight. It was like hitting a wall, but would hold right at that speed. Speed limiters have been a fact of life for year due to Government regulations, the Insurance Industry has pushed for these things to protect us from ourselves, and to cover their asses from speed related fatalities. I have raced sportscars since the early 80s, if you want to call a '74 Honda Civic 1200 or a '84 Nissan Pulsar a sportscar, well there was the '84 Honda CRX Showroom Stock car, but they all made great track cars. Any car can be a great sportscar if properly built, and if used under the right circumstances, ie: not out in crowded city streets, just gotta use good judgement and learn your cars limits. Oh and by the way, even the little 1200 Civic would run 108mph with a drafting partner!!

There IS a speed limiter. I'm not posting it again. You won't make 130 mph with your stock ECU.

I'm quite curious about if this actually works or not. And if it does, does it also throw off the speeometer?

If it does, maybe a call to JET should be in the works. Even if it costs hundreds, at least then you could probably use their power programmer to play with other things such as the rev limiter or throttle response, right?

The only real benefit for that would be throttle response, unless you have serious engine modifications like boost or some such. The DBW lag is helped tremendously with some aftermarket deals like that, but there's no real reason to get something that expensive solely to defeat a 118 MPH speed limiter.

Well, also, tuner chips I've heard can reconfigure the ECU - at the expense of a handful of HP - to also gain extra economy.

Or CONVERSELY, allow more timing advance if you're running 91 high-octane.

There isn't one for the Yaris that can change either the rev or speed limiter.

I would be willing to throw down the 76 bucks to try it...if it didn't there would be no reason why someone couldn't just eBay it or CL it for @ least 50 bucks...

^ simple and a clever solution! -- but not many would do without their speedo on a street car.

simply cut the wire going from the speedo to the ECU and you're free to speed away and you still have your working speedo. You will have a CEL though.

I made a device similar to the greddy one and it works for fooling the ECM to avoid the speed cut out (verified on the bench, not on the street). The speedometer value is incorrect once the limit is passed (it remains at the speed that I am feeding to the ECM), which in my case is 115 MPH.

I also made one for the rev limiter, but am afraid to test it on a live engine.
