looking for 07-08 Yaris AT

My kid crashed her 03 corolla and looks like I should be able to buy yaris with the insurance money. I'm located near LA, MS, AL, and FL. Will pay the full KBB value. Can't find any locally. Thanks.

Never mind. I got one today. Had to travel 150 miles to Florida. Private party (Craigslist). 2007 red yaris hatchback base AT under 66,000 miles with clean title and overall good condition (as far as I can determine). $6,500. How did I do?

Maybe it wasn't a steal after all. I looked closer and there are subtle signs of repairing/repainting on one side. The carfax report was totally clean, though.

One thing I noticed, MT Yaris (or any car I guess) can be bought much cheaper.

Carfax isn't a guarantee. If a car is wrecked and then repaired at home or by a shop that doesn't enter in these reports (repairs paid by the owner out of pocket or other factors) then nothing will go in.

Just as how a car can avoid a salvage title if the claim is never put into insurance - maybe because the only insurance the owner had was liability. So Billy Bob, the owner's buddy, repairs it for a three-month supply of Lite Beer; and the thing is completely farkled up. But it looks pretty; and there's no Carfax or salvage title!

plus it depends on the damage, some place wont bother doing a report fro a replaced fender that didn't to any other damage to the car.

I don't know exactly how it works in the States, but in Canada, an insurance claim is an insurance claim regardless of $$ damage or magnitude. The governing body, Insurance Bureau of Canada, is automatically fed the details of all claims reported. Windshield claims are the exception here. This is the one and only source of info feeding Carfax.
