Simple JVC Headunit
Just got the Yaris. Had a spare simple JVC/JL Audio rig lying around.
Simple Toyota 2DIN->JIN kit from AutoBarn (~$20), with Toyota->OEM wiring harness rewired to JVC. (~$25) The screws in the OEM unit were stif and required a ratchet. From the front: Sits pretty flush when the cover is open: Speakers next... |

I'm thinking of buying two sets of these to mount the speakers, I think it would be much neater than jigsawing some MDF:

I searched long and hard for the past couple of weeks to see if there were any other dash kits for the Yaris that are available here in North America (besides Scosche, Metra and American International).
During those weeks, I discovered some different and nicer looking kits available in the UK and in Australia. I wish we could find a YW member in either place that could do some kind of group buy for these nicer kits. |

This one is made by DNA Designer Audio: http://www.dnaaudio.com.au/ (wholesale only)
I threw out the packaging, but I'm pretty sure it's: "WHP702 - Toyota Plastic Pocket" |

Just put the speakers in. Fuck the person at Toyota who designed this bracket.
Anyhow, used a compass, jigsaw and my neighbour's bench drill to make some new mounts out of plywood, resoldered the speaker wire, riveted the speakers into the new bracket from behind (chose rivets so the new bracket would sit as flush as possible on the chassis), then riveted the bracket back into the original holes. Here's the result: Then I sanded a little of the plywood so the door panel plugs would fit back in, and put the door panel back. These mounts aren't moving. Sounds much better! |
