Last year we picked up a 2012 Yaris SE - love it. It's a great A-to-B commuter that's a little more fun than most at a great price.
This summer we learned we're expecting twins. Twins... ![]() We're excited, but the strollers we like don't fit into the trunk at all and the car seats we've tried seem like tight fits, too. I was wondering if anyone's got any roof rack recommendations that might include a case or bag of 30" x 40" x 15" dimensions or if anyone with a couple of kids have some other tips. One kid is one thing, two at once is another. I'd like to keep the Yaris, but need to make it work. Thanks for the time! Dave |

Everyone I know, with their second, gave up on 'only small cardom' and bought at least a small SUV. I did a Duck Duck Go search engine search with the three words roof, rack, and stroller and nothing useful appeared. Your post sure brought back some wonderful memories, though. My most memorable time pushing a stroller will always be pushing my little cousin along the promenade, all the way around a lake in China the day after I met her.

hehe congrats on the twins! :) My wife wanted twins, luckily we didn't.
So that said.. You probably want a bigger car with 2 babies at once. The Yaris hatch is hard fit for 1 baby with the stroller. I've found that you need to forward the front seat a little bit to fit a rear facing car seat in the Yaris. Not very cool. Also fitting a stroller in the hatch space is very tricky and you really need to find a small one. Now with twins.. nothing will fit. Are you absolutely sure you wanna always go around with a roof box? It's gonna be hell to bring up and down the dual-stroller.. Anyways, i think a front/back stroller would fit nicely inside a thule rack/box. |

With my two kids, only one was still in a car seat when we got our fist Yaris in 08. We didn't have issues with the car seat fitment, but my wife and I are both short, so there is loads of room behind the front seats.
Rather than a roof top carrier for the stroller, you may want to consider adding a trailer hitch and using a hitch basket for the stroller. A large duffel bag or a custom box could be used to keep the stroller out of the elements.

With two kids under 3 and still in car seats I opted to keep the yaris and got a 2012 Toyota sienna. Great van. Lots of room.

Thanks for all the suggestions and congratulations! Sorry for the long delay - I think my notifications were broken. I'll take a serious look at that hitch while also giving a lot of thought to car seats that fit... we're not so short so we'll see how it all fits!

Unless you're short....you likely wont fit in the drivers seat with a rear facing seat on each side of the car...
We have a Phil and Teds front-rear double stroller bought specifically to fit in our 07....but we didn't have 2 babies in buckets.

Nope, not short. Today's the day we discover the level of truth to this statement. I'll update. :) |
