Matching Painted Tail Lights
Just bought LED tail lights, and going to paint them just like I did these. They're factory color matched to my car, and they are not smoked, or tinted.. they're painted. Not cheap stuff to have done either. Truely one of a kind. Shoot me serious offers in a private msg please.

This one is illegal AND dangerous though haha.
And a lot of our illegal mods are visibly hidden. Lights look pretty cool though |

Garm, you should smoke your taillights too so they'll match your black and CF parts!
Only if you get caught ;)

nevada law says, they have to be visable from 500 feet... I can say during the day time, good luck..
at night time, yes, they are legal, as you can clearly see them from 500 feet. These are more for a cough *show car* You could always buy the LED lights and install them, and that would make them wayyy brighter. Personally I only got pulled over once for them in Las Vegas, and got a warning (i've had the car over a year and a half). Even if they give you a fix it ticket.. its only like $100 bucks. |

They look nice but only really for car shows. Not really safe for driving on public streets with. I have trouble seeing people brake with blacked out headlights using a tint let alone completely blacked out with spray paint thats not meant to be translucent.

So when the lights are off, they look exactly like the color of the car... given the right angle.. you can still see the red lights (even when lights are completely off) and when the lights are on, you can see them clearly. Like I said, I know they aren't exactly street legal during the day, but at night, they are clearly visable, and legal to the 500 ft requirement that is NV law. Lights are completely off in this picture... you can still see the factory red lights under the paint: |

Ahhhh okay i can kinda see what you mean. That makes more sense. I was just assuming you jsut took it to a body shop and had them color match your car with regular paint.

Good luck with that
I tinted mine in May of `08 - I left a non-tinted stripe that followed the body contour.
Yesterday I got pulled over on the freeway by a state trooper and was given a warning for having "black" tail lights. I told him they were red when the lights were on. He said that didn't matter. He told me that OEM tail lights have built in reflectors that reflect other cars headlights even when your lights are not on and that because mine are tinted the reflectors did not reflect. He went on to tell me that this is A FEDERAL law - it does not matter what your state specifies. He had the option to impound my car and make me walk. He didn't, instead he gave me two days to correct them. I removed the Nite Shades today, and boy was it a bitch. Here's how they used to look.

OK so after removing the Nite Shades tinting the OEM lens are kinda "foggy", I think the tint ate into the surface a bit. I'll need to replace them eventually but can't afford it right now.
I was looking at some after market tails and was wondering if they are legal. Anyone know if these are ? http://www.xtralights.com/06-08toyot...smokepair.aspx

it is federal law to have the red reflector on the rear
you still have the red reflectors when the tails are tinted, and it is still visible you just got a prick cop, most states require stop light be visible from x amount of feet it all depends how the laws in your state are worded.... we are cool here in Ohio, so long as our brake lights can be seen from 1000 feet
