Forgive me for i have sinned.
I accidentally hit and maintained 7k rpms for like 2 seconds. I wont get into the reason why hahahaha >.>.
Its a new car too and i felt so bad for fucking up so badly. How much damage did i do in reality? (i dont usually go above 3k/4k rpms daily - no point in lying about it)

For two seconds? One time only? On a warmed up engine? The answer should be none. Unless your car is behaving in some way that makes you suspect that something is wrong, I wouldn't worry about it.

How did you manage to do that when fuel cut-off is at around 6450 rpm?

Part that bothers me though is everyone is telling me that shift limiter kicks in at 6.2 but i was clearly in the 7.1-7.2 range. What gives, am i a real life initial D?

Modern engines are designed to endure that, also you will never be able to reach redline. It stops at about 5800 RPM if your redline is 6000...

Just out of curiosity......What makes you feel that you damaged the engine? Is it making some funny noises or something? Is it not running right now?

Were you wearing platform boots when you did this? Just curious.

I've done this a couple times with mine too in 1st and 2nd with no problems. Just don't plan on turning this into a habit.

this has hopefully gotta be a joke thread.... cuz this might be one of the most retarded whines I've ever seen, lmao....
"OH NOES!!!! I HIT THE REV LIMITER AND IT BOUNCED OFF IT A FEW TIMES!!!!! MY CAR IS RUINED!!!" i've bounced off the rev limiter countless times, as have MANY others on this forum, in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and i've tried my damn hardest to get it to do the same in 4th, but the gov kicks in too soon. Unless you sit there and just sit in your driveway and hold the gas on the floorboard for like 3 straight minutes, odds are, you won't damage anything. Hell, it's suggested to go through a full range of rpms during a break in period to just ensure everything settles in correctly.

+1, this happened to me the other day too, my rev limiter before has stopped me around 6.7k but for some reason i got past 7.2 the other day and it was still on the rise.....

Yeah know need to go negative on the OP. This is a legitimate question and concern.
A break in period is still a good process to take although it isn't nearly as important as on past cars. Today's cars can take far more abuse and are already built to much tighter tolerances that require little "settling" of engine components. Still, automakers recommend these break in periods that suggests limiting RPM, very high speed, jack rabbit starts, and long sustained speeds. The OP has every right to wonder if he may have affected long term durability. That said, I don't think there's anything to worry about from this example especially on a proven to be bullet proof engine. Today's cars are extremely resilient to abuse. Check out these torture tests for Ford's new EcoBoost engine in the F-150. And this is with no break in. http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/expe...9m2nop20101101 |
