Tip Start

I didn't know the Yaris had this feature, and I've had mine since October!

Tip Start - turn the ignition key to starting position and bump the starter only once, the engine will keep cranking until it starts.

I found this out this afternoon when I went to start my car, it takes a couple seconds longer when it's below 32degrees F outside. I let go of the key early and the starter kept going until it started. I was confused, because the cars that I work on have the same feature(tip start).

Well, I'm excited, none of the sales people or ads never mentioned this feature. It's necessary when you have a car with Keyless Go(M-B) or any other keyless starting system, which they DO offer for the Yaris in Japan(It's in the engine control module software on M-Bs), bastards.

Now I have to get used to this feature, and then tell all of my friends about it, lol.

I know it's there, but I just can't force myself to let go till the motor is running... Gonna take practice and patience...

The whole "press clutch down to start the engine" thing got me very confused at first, I thought the car was dead, even went back in the dealership to tell them there was something wrong with the car... oops!

you never had a car that you had to fully depress the clutch for it to start? Ever manual trans I have ever owned did that, I for get what it is called, but it is basicly like a Neutral safty switch off an auto

Yeah, if I ever happen to need to drive my dad's Jeep Grande Cherokee or my mom Grand Voyager any where, it actually annoys me that they dont have this feature now, im so used to it.

Nope... I can't say I've driven a lot of cars, but between 3 of my parents' previous cars (Nissan, Mazda, Honda, they're not picky), various local pickup trucks, and cars we had rented when on holidays back in France, none had that function! I was taught, and got used to, shaking the gearshift side to side to ensure it was in neutral before turning the ignition...

Weird eh?
