Best tool I've found so far to remove oil filter PICS

The black steel cap one from PepBoys is awful and hops a lot. The Channel Locks work, but there's not really enough room in that area so you have to tilt the pliers down and that makes it real hard to get a good solid grip. The AST is an all aluminum casting and fits like a glove!

i use the walmart oil filter wrench and that works fine. it's the same design except plastic and costs $2.

I used one of these last time. I guess the torque spec on the filter is like screw on till it hits the top and then a 3/4 turn. The specs are in the service manual Thomas provided on here.

I use K&N filters it has a "nut" built in so it can be directly removed with a wrench.

I have plastic unit for a couple bucks for doing my sister's car, How much is this piece? Would be C-O-L-D in winter!

BTW any one find a good source for drain plug washers like under 25c each? No way I'm paying dealer a 1 euro for a penny washer. Can you use brass from the hardware store? and are they 12 or 14 mm? Sorry for all the questions.

I splurged and bought 10 washers for $10 from the dealer.
Penny wise and Pound foolish can cost you a lot in the end.....

?????????? you know they sell this auto tightening chain wrench where you attach the links on the oil filter and then crank it... works on every one of our cars even when it is stuck on...

The factory oil filter had more torque than 3/4 turn. I have found that 3/4 to 1 turn works well and I am able to remove the old filter by hand.

Well, they are "crush" washers, so they are special. If you want to be cheap, just reuse them. I do replace it each time on my Yaris, but I didn't used to with the other cars I've had.

I use the black socket for changes . Take some sticky back felt and put on the inside edges of oil filter socket to help slide on and off the oil filter . That way shouldn't need to use claws of hammer to get stuck socket off of oil filter which can damage it . Once is on , I'll tighten by hand and then turn oil filter with socket about 3/4 of a turn . Last , I pour 4 ounces of oil into new filter before reinstalling . The TOYO ( Denso ) oil filters already have a lubricant ( looks like vaseline ) on gasket . A good thing , no oily fingers .

Napa sells a good one as well. It fits the filters perfectly.

Thats not pencewise - thats a ripoff. Its a goat-mule sacrifical drain plug washer not even remotely high tech. Boy, you americas throw your money away like its been given too you by rich daddy! Drive up coffe for three euro a cup and complain about gas cost. Very Hilarious! I'll save the buck and buy the next better grade OIL FILTER or Euro Oil where it may do something good for the motor. If you dig through garbage for food and cloth 1/2 your life you will not be so cavalier about throwing money away. So Brass washer, hot plunged in zinc or stannum will do great for "crush washer" So is it 14mm or 12 mm DIA?
