*UPDATE: We got it!!! Used Yaris Purchase, Suggestions Please * PIC added

I been wanting a Yaris for a long time now.
A private seller near us is selling a red 2008 3dr automatic with 12,000 miles.
It has power locks, powers windows, single CD player,AC,tilt wheel and tinted windows. Haven't seen it in person yet but from the pictures the she sent me it looks pretty good. They bought it in Sept. '08 so I think that's a lot of miles in an 8 month period. They are selling because they are having a baby and need a 4dr. Asking price is $12k but I think I can get it for $11k which is our budget limit.
What do you guys think? good/bad deal or wait and keep looking?
Thanks in advance.

*check post #18 for pic

sounds good..

a base yaris is 13500$ + tax + TP. They are offering 2000$ rebate right now in Canada, but it's stil 11500$ for a base model. You know, base model... ala 4 wheels and a steering wheel? hehe.

I would ask for proof that the oil had been changed twice. Check for uneven tire wear. People sell cars on their own because the dealer didn't give a good trade in offer. Sounds like a good deal if you can get the car for 11k. Remember that taxes, title, and other fees will still be more money. In my state about $1,000. Plan for it.

Bad news, $11,500 is the lowest they would go :(
Is it still a good deal and would you buy it?
Opinions please.

Kelley Blue Book has the price listed around $12,000 private party sale in excellent condition so it would seem that the price is reasonable.

The only suggestions I would make is

Get the Car Fax report
Ask for service records, as suggested
Have a mechanic look at it, if possible.

I believe the Toyota warranty is transferable so you should have that to fall back on.

Good deals depend on more than price. Once again have you seen proof of oil changes? 12,000 with no oil changes will change the worth of a car. Have you taken a test drive? If the car pulls to one side or there is uneven tire wear there is a possibility that the car hit a curb. They will probably sell the car for that price. Next week there will be another car on the market for you to look at.

Definately check car fax to see if anything reported..but not everything is on there.
12000 is not that much miles in the time frame, especially if commute driver.
Also, have your private mechanic look over the car carefully.

Well the seller acted like they are not willing to budge on the price.
Got an email from them yesterday saying that they will sell it for 11k.
So we will check out the car today and hopefully buy :)

Carfax looks good:

She's dirty right now. Front end covered with bugs.
I will post pics as soon as I give her a good cleaning.

Picture as promised

Here she is nice and clean
Already have a few things planned to make her different from the rest.

Honda Element in the back is our other car.
Another great vehicle IMO.
