Wonder what this is going to cost
I'm in the fast lane doing about 70, 5th wheel mobile home is in the slow lane doing about 50,when i'm 4-5 car lengths behind him he puts on his turn signal to get into the passing lane which i thought was odd as there was nothing in front of him, meanwhile i'm leading a pack of cars and motorcycles and assumed he was going to make his move once we were all passed him,as i'm passing him i can see he's pulling over speed lane be damned,i was up to his rear truck wheels when i realized he aint hearing my horn and he isnt stopping his move so rather than enter oncoming traffic my only option was to jam on the brakes and let 35 ft of trailer rape the side of my car, once out of the car i asked him what he thought he was doing but he just got belligerent and said i was trying to pass him on the median
after talking to the cops they told me it was a case of him not looking in his mirrors, personally i think he was a me first maniac and intentionally ran me off the road.In the end no one got hurt and its just bent metal and the insurance will fix it.

Coming from St Constant about 2 miles before the Mercier bridge.I hope the guys karma takes a down turn.It was a no win situation had i slammed on my brakes on the assumption the guy was just going to pull out the line of cars and bikes behind me would have been in a chain reaction .I still have no idea why he pulled into the passing lane when he did as there was nothing in front of him and the Mercier Bridge merge was 2 miles further on.

I had the same thing happen to me last November. A guy with steamed up windows came into my lane without any warning and hit the front of my car...$2200.00 damage. Very frustrating! I find with this car, that I have been cut off more than any other car. I even chose a bright colour (Orange) so it would be more noticable.
Glad you were okay...its scary how fast accidents happen!!

What really irks me is this no fault insurance,it was his fault yet there are no consequences to his actions.

Looked to be in his mid 50's hard to say if he had any deficiencies other than his obvious lack of courtesy on the road.He did blast his wife a couple of times when she asked him "why he did it"

i guess this is contrary to human reflex, but would keeping the same speed as him resulted in less damage? i mean you both would still collide just alot less scraping. This and my friends broadside hit and run friday afternoon, really scares me...

There's not much time to think in the few seconds it took to occur.I was passing him going quite a bit faster and it wasnt till i got as far as the back wheels of his pickup before i realized there was no way out,he's coming all the way over.

The police got my story and said it was ok for me to leave after taking down all the particulars so i didnt see what happened to the guy but the police were making a big deal out of his lack of registration and insurance for the trailer,i'll presume he left it at home.Maybe the whole hassle will make the guy think twice next time about running some one off the road.

I honestly feel that in cases like this, the insurance should NOT pay for it, the guy who is responsible should have to pay through the nose. It is this stupidity (and no-fault insurance) that drivers rates up.
You said it yourself - "No-one was hurt and the insurance will pay". That attitude is why insurance is so expensive. |

Actually, there is insurance for everything. It is actually quite cheaper in Quebec than other cities around Canada.
btw Jambo, his insurance, even thought will not pay, will be marked with an accident on file. Meaning his next renewal might take in consideration the accident even if he does not claim. anyways, glad you are ok. I've seen this happen so many times. People change to the passing lane for no apparent reasons. |

i think it's a crime to let people drive large, heavy vehicles without special licensing to prove they can drive it properly...I also think it's a crime that you only have to pass the driving tests once in your lifetime...
thank god you're ok! |
