good way to guestimate your mpg using the digital gas gauge

in the short time i've owned my yaris sedan i have figured that the first bar is good for about 75 miles, then about 50 miles per bar thereafter. going by this rough estimate that's 425 miles/11.1 gallons for 38.3 mpg.

you can use this a a rough gauge to see whether you are above or below 38.3 mpg while you are driving around. for example, when you are at about half a tank if you have over 225 miles when the fifth bar drops, you are above 38.3 mpg approx.
