Increase Gas Pedal Tension
Hi,
I have read a number of complaints regarding the gas pedal being to light for long distance driving, causing leg cramps. My wife and I have the same issue with our 07 5 door. I found this idea on a Honda Fit site, link below: http://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-d...gas-pedal.html Has anyone tried something similar on a Yaris? It is currently -25C outside and I don't feel like going outside to look and see if it is doable on our car. Cheers, Mike |

DON'T mess with the gas pedal!
Those Fit guys are taking a big chance doing that. Toyota already has enough grief with gas pedals, why go out of your way to make things even worse?? When it comes to gas or brake pedals, just leave them be... BTW, welcome to Yaris World!

Looks interesting. I'd like to try it...have to look into it further. I don't think anyone here's tried it yet.

Hi,
I don't see why adding a spring to assist in closing the throttle would be an issue in that the cars are drive by wire. It seems that the Fit drivers have the same complaint of the throttle pedal resistance being to light and the resulting leg cramps etc. Have a look at the picture below. That said, I have not even looked at ours due to the temperature outside. :-) Cheers, Mike Last edited by typeonemb; 12-31-2010 at 07:58 PM. Reason: grammer |

here are some pictures of a 2010 3dr manual yaris, one of the pedal and the other what the spring looks like it could hook on to.. good luck to whoever wants to try this.

I don't understand how too light of a pedal results in leg cramps. I can see how too stiff of a pedal would do that. I'm missing something!

well for long distance driving you can add cruise control instead of messing around with the gas pedal. itll stop the leg cramps

People with heavy feet (literally) have to hold their foot up and can't relax. It's normal for the human body to put downward pressure on you feet (pushing down on the peddle) but when the peddle is too light, relaxing you leg would result in WOT.

Thank you for the pictures ilikerice!
Because of the slightly odd driving position in the Yaris, I find I have to hold my foot at an uncomfortable angle on the gas pedal. For me, because of the light pedal resistance, I am holding my foot "up" in this position rather than "resting" my foot on the gas. We do have cruise installed on the car but it is unsafe to use it when the roads are covered with snow and ice and in heavy traffic. The other issue I have with the gas pedal resistance is that it is more difficult to modulate the throttle when the roads are slippery, especially when trying to get the car moving on ice, even with 4 Blizzak ice tires installed. When it warms up, I going to try the front seat track modification that others have had success with to see if the additional thigh support helps. Last edited by typeonemb; 01-02-2011 at 12:22 PM.
