New '08 5dr HB Owner in Vancouver

Hey guys I just got my Yaris in April, loving it so far!
'08 5-sp 5dr HB.

I've been browsing the forum and have started a couple mods, but it looks like I'm gonna have to give Garm some business in the future!

So far I've worked on the audio set up and replaced the stock deck with a Sony DSX-S300BTX, replaced the stock coffee filter speakers with some 6.5" Kenwood components up front and 6.5" coaxial sony speakers in the rear as well as adding a 10" JVC sub.

Also I've debadged the rear, removed the charcoal intake filter, changed the license plate surrounds, added a roof rack, disabled the DRL's, got a dash-mount for the iPhone used with an OBD II to WiFi adapter and Rev app, replaced the shift knob/boot (best investment so far) and added an arm-rest.

Next on the list is for sure getting the windows tinted, MI Crank pulley, MI shift kit and shifter extension.

Then after that perhaps an intake, fog light kit, and maybe just maybe if money allows and I find some proper 60/40 seats to replace my bench some Clazzio seat covers!

And one of these days I'd like to do the cruise control stalk and variable windshield wiper stalk.
...big plans I know! We'll see how it turns out.

Anyways thanks for all the great info guys! Amazing forum you've got here.

Hey, I like your shift boot. Where did you get it from and how much?

Looks great! Welcome to the Yaris Community!

Did you install the tweeters on the doors yourself? Nice work!

Could you give me a little more info on that iPhone set-up? Are you using it as your speedometer? Looks cool!

Have fun with your planned (and unplanned) mods!

I got it from Canadian Tire. It's hardly a quality product but it's $17 and I like the look much better than stock.

It's a little tricky to instal, I stretched it out over the plastic shifter surround and then ended up using some krazy glue to get it to stay in place. The edge of the shifter boot was too thick for the plastic tabs in the surround to property click back into place.
Like I said it's not the best quality, but I think it looks good too and the price is right! Here's a link to it:

Thanks! I sure did, nothing like cutting a hole in a perfectly good door panel!

The iPhone set up is my way of replacing the ScanGauge II. First off I used the Exogear ExoMount to hold it in place, I got one from eBay for $40 bucks.
But here's the official site: http://www.exogear.com/products-exom...nt-holder.html

Then the actual display on the phone is an app called Rev. It does essentially what a ScanGauge II does. It does display speed and rpms, and I have those set up in the corners of the display, but my main use of it is for the instant fuel economy. You can move the gauges around and choose others as you please though.

Now to make the app work you need some hardware, an OBD II to WiFi adapter which will send out the data from the Yaris' ECU for the app to display. If you end up getting one and need help setting it up give me a shout, it was a bit of a pain to figure out the IP and port number that the adapter was using.

Kiwi WiFi is endorsed by Rev, here's their site:
http://plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=GSSTWIFI
But I got a no-name WiFi adapter from eBay for $70 bucks beacause the Kiwi price is pretty steep at $150.

Even so it's still not the cheapest set up beacuse the app itself is $40, so my total was $150 to get the set up to work. But to me it was worth it because I think it looks good, I like the functions of the Rev app, and when I don't use Rev I can use my phone as a GPS!
I chose Navfree for the GPS because it doesn't use data. It's about a 2 gig download and stores all the maps on your phone. And it's free! It'll cost you $2 if you want the no-ad version though.

Anyways thanks for the compliment, I'm stoked to get everything set up! I've already talked to Jeff to get my short shift kit, very nice guy, excellent service. I can't wait to get it in the mail!

Oh I forgot the close up of the app, I have the Intake Temp and Engine Coolant Temp up top and then speed and RPM in the bottom and the Instant Fuel Economy in the center. Here's what it looks like:
