Dots on air flow selector
Now don't judge me for this question, but does anyone know what the dots on the air flow selector are for? Does putting it on these mean that the air is splitting between the two selections?

I believe you're correct. There is a variable combination between each two pictured functions on the knob as far as I can tell.

indeed it does. And you don't even need to have the dial on any of the dots, if you feel it when you turn it the dial will sit pretty much anywhere.
oh, and there are no stupid questions.
