Sedan Trunk Lock Stuck

I tried searching this but couldn't come up with anything so here goes!

My trunk won't open if I stick my key into it and try to turn. It does work if I pull the latch from inside the driver's area. I'm using my master key, same one I have always used with no problems until now. Basically, I'll stick the key in vertically and try to turn clockwise, but it won't budge. Every once in a while, or with slight wiggling it will budge and open. I have already used lock lube but that didn't help either.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Do you have another key that hasn't been used much? Sometimes the key gets worn enough to make it no longer hit the tumblers correctly.

The only other key I have in possession is a copy of my master from Walmart.
I just tried to use it and it definitely works better than my master but is not 100% and is almost impossible to turn counterclockwise to lock the trunk.
Is there anything I can do for a worn key?
Thanks for your quick response!

You can go to a Toyota dealer and they can cut you a key based on your VIN. That way the key will match what the key was like when it was brand new.

The actual key part is removable from the fob, so you should be able to get just the key part redone.

Definitely confused. I can't seem to figure out how to separate the key from the fob...

The metal key with the plastic frame is purchasable as a separate part from the electronics.

I just bought one and it worked great. The electronics swapped right over and the key cost me $3 to cut.

Ah, gotcha. It was my misunderstanding.

I was looking at a thread about programming a new key. I think I just might buy that and have Toyota cut it. That way, I'll just have two! Thanks everyone!

Already tried that. The key itself slips in and slides out pretty easily...

An update!

I just thought I'd update everyone on what I ended up doing.

For giggles, I went to Toyota and asked them how much it would be to get a new master key w/transmitter. They said $219 for the housing and transmitter (he said there was a separate part number for the housing but that I could not order it/they did not sell it). $10 to cut the key. $80 to program. I was looking at roughly $310 for a new key from them.

I went on eBay with my FCC ID number and bought a used, cut Scion key with remote for $16. Also purchased new housing on eBay for $6. Programmed it myself using the instructions from imknotright's thread http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...+keyless+entry. Went to Toyota to have them cut the new key for $10. So $32 total. It was a total win and experience for me. I had no idea programming the key was that easy. Toyota even cut a "test" key to make sure the cut was correct and gave that to me too.

The new key definitely works much better than the old key in opening the trunk. It is not perfect but I'll live for now.

Thank you everyone for all your help. I truly appreciate it!
