Transmission flush question
Hi all,
2008 Yaris hatch (3door) with a manual transmission. I now have 152,000 miles on the car and I've never changed the transmission fluid. It's been one hell of a car for me and I've never had the money to do all the maintenance I wish I could have. I'm hoping to keep her alive for another 100k and was wondering if I should change the fluid with this many miles. What would you do? I've changed over to synthetic oil and changed the plugs. I've got decent tires and I've just done a brake job. Also, my dad borrowed the car from me for a couple months. He's kind of a drunk idiot and usually can't be taken seriously he said "heck of a little car. I advanced the timing to make her run a little hotter hehhe (spits dip and drinks beer)". .. I'm wondering, isn't this impossible with a vvt-i? I thought the point was to do it electronically. Was he just talking out of his ass or should I check for something? Thanks for the help and for letting me post my question! |

Wow, manual gear oil should be changed every 40k miles. It's like differential oil in a AWD system.

on the timing change. Cant be adjusted.
Change the coolant if it hasn't been done. Just use the radiator drain is what I do and mine all comes out. Then refill with Toyota coolant and your good forever. You could change the MT oil if you want or just check the level every year and watch for leaks when you have the car up on ramps to change the oil which is what I would do.

When I bought my Yaris with 65K miles, I changed the MT oil using RedLine. Big difference in shift quality. I highly recommend changing it.
