Kenwood DNX5120 HU?
Anyone have any experience with the Kenwood DNX5120 HU? I’ve ordered one but now have second thoughts…. I like the fact it uses garmin gps maps but not the fact I can only plug one of the following options into the HU expansion port, satellite radio or HD radio or blue tooth.

I heard the BT sound quality is pretty bad. I know of at least one unit where the GPS functionality has failed.
It takes about 30 seconds to boot up. |

From my experience the unit overall is pretty reliable and the BT is parrot so you could always update it, the Garmin maps is a plus but uses a pretty old interace. If your gonna end up paying retail I would recommend looking into the Pioneer F series instead, cheaper and get more for the price.

Got a discount and went with 5120
I took a look at the other units and then found the Kenwood on sale. I just finished installing the HU, XM module, backup camera, and Bluetooth. I also changed out both sets of speakers with blaupunkt's. I also ran the USB cable to the driver side dash box along with the audio and video jacks. I can plug in a thumb drive, USB hard drive, or my Ipod touch. It's great watching videos from the touch on the screen and the quality is as good as DVDs.

Dash kit from Cruchfield
The dash kit came from cruchfield. It's a good fit and was cheap. I also picked up the XM kit and Ipod cable from them. I see they have the price of the HU down to $599 Maybe I should have waited a couple of weeks.

How much did you pay for it? I saw it in $499 on Amazon. It looks pretty nice. The screen is 6.1" kind of little.

Cost....
$700.00 for the HU, but that’s just the start. I added the XM module, bluetooth module, Ipod cable, and rear camera. I spend a lot of time in the car and wanted plenty of entertainment. I should have waited a Month. With the new models announced the price has dropped considerably. I think they will be out about May. Yes, another ½ or ¾ inch would have been nice, but the display size looks fine in the dash.
