Sales Volumes

Looking at the Autozone site it is scary how few aftermarket replacement parts are available for the Yaris. I don't know if this is because the car only has a few years history in the US or if it is because there haven't been many Yarii sold.

Anyone know how many Yaris have been sold in 2007,08,09 ?

I'm not really surprised at the low quantity of aftermarket.
1) Yaris is a small volume vehicle in US
2) Toyota's are traditionally purchased and driven by conservative type folks (value first) who pinch pennies and drive slow. A to B type people. Not your hi-po types likely to mod.
3) Toyota doesn't try to build a sporty image (Honda does) due to reason # 2. Wouldn't want to scare off the conservatives.

Reason # 2 Bonus: it never crosses a police officers mind to pull over Toyota. Their attention goes to the sporty brands. It's almost as if we're stealth. This is good!

Toyota would rather sell Camry and Corolla over the Yaris. The Yaris is made in Japan and less profitable. The Yaris is meant to fill the low end. If fuel prices increase, then they would start making the Yaris in the USA. Then you would see a shift in the aftermarket.

By aftermarket I mean OE equivalent but less expensive parts, like an alternative to the $500 driveshafts.

That's why. Most people who change their filters DIY know better than to get paper.

what do you mean? the paper filters are over 99% effective for filtration and i'm not convinced any 'performance' filter on the market makes a significant difference in hp ON OUR CAR to justify the extra cost.

^i've done the k&n thing on my last 2 vehicles and i just got tired of spending money on the 'recharge' kits. didn't really notice a performance difference anyways, but i can see from an environmental view the reduction of waste.
