Angry Doggone !

had to slam on the brakes on our new 2010 3 door thanks to a dumb that didn't keep their large black lab in check . Fortunately we were only doing about 35 m.p.h. when the dog decided to dart out of nowhere to chase it . This happened just past the 1,000 mile break in period . So , hopefully there won't be any mechanical issues that could impact performance ( mileage , braking , etc. ) of the car due to the hard stop which is to be avoided in early stage of a break in (stated in owners manual ) . The studded snow tires are new as well . Checked those and seem to be o.k.. Thankfully didn't collide and do body damage .

Better to hit the breaks hard than to smash into something.

If anything, go to one of those shops that conduct free brake checks.

Oh, come on! You haven't hurt anything by slamming on the brakes hard once.

sure doesn't help the studs or the softer rubber of snow tires . They're not cheap you know . Some people sure are testy these days .

yeah, i dont get it. what could be damged from this? the wheel would not have locked up for any significant amount of time.
there are a million things that could cause someone to have to brake hard during the break in period and im sure many of us have had to do it.

im glad the dog wasnt hit. that would be my only concern in this story.

It's permanently broken. Better trade it on a Kia Soul.

says not to do hard breaking ( sudden stops ) within the 1st few hundred miles . Must be a reason behind TOYOTAs logic .

I'm sure toyota doesn't want you breaking your car ever.

On a side note, I almost lit my brakes on fire when I hit traffic bedding my brakes last week. Good times.

well , the same people had their black lab run out into the road again while driving the '08 sedan . Good thing was driving even slower since 1st occurence . Told the young boy to please keep the dog from the road before someone , dog , vehicle , or all get injured ( damaged ) . Not sure if it'll do any good . We too have a dog that's part AUSTRALIAN SHEPERD and BERNESE MT. DOG . Keep her on a short lease for her well being and ours so have many more years of companionship .
