Air Inlet Control Damper
Hey guys, so I was driving the the Yaris (2008 Yaris LE Hatch) today and went to change the Air Inlet Control Damper from FRESH to RECIRC as I was going to use the A/C. I gave it a turn, and it seemed snugged for a second, and then just let go. There is now zero resistance when turning the dial from one way to the other, being that it's obvious something has broke or become disconnected. I'm thinking a pulley or cable has snapped or something in behind the panel. Anyone ever experience this or heard of such a thing happening? Anyways, going to have to take apart the center console to investigate but just wanted to see if it's been addressed in the past.
Cheers. FRESH - Brings in fresh air RECIRC - Recirculates internal air Last edited by white_rice; 08-10-2011 at 08:52 PM. |

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that there is a very small fragile tab on the knob that keys into a slot on the spindle. This tab has probably sheared off.

A couple of others have had this happen. If you're lucky, the cable assembly popped off the back of the control knob or off the air intake door. If you're not, then the cable snapped. Pop the AC control panel off and start there.

Thanks guys -- I will give it a look this weekend and see what I can find. Will definitely post results, for future reference.

Try not to change the setting if the fan is up full blast also as I think the pressure of the fan creates that resistence to it turning.

So believe it or not I just finally got around to fixing it this week! LOL Took apart the surround around the temp controls to find that the one piece simply wasn't snapped in that held the pin to control the dial. I'm guessing it was probably in an IA condition from the factory and just let loose finally after use/vibration. As once I seated it entirely I don't see how it would come out without good pressure on the tabs.
Nonetheless that problem is fixed. However in doing so, I noticed later in the evening (once dark) that now the top and bottom of the 3 temp dials are no longer illuminated. I took it apart quick again and all the wires are still in tact and what not. Possibly the bulbs blew from dis and re-assembly? I didn't see anything blaintly obvious anyways. It would appear at first glance the dials need to be dissambled to get to the lights within the dials? Thanks |
