Modifications I want to do. Please help!

Hello everyone,

I have had my 2008 Yaris 2DR Hatchback since I bought it brand new in 2008. I know I should have done this years ago, but a new coat of paint, as well as a higher paying job, has prompted me into wanting to finally do a few things to my Yaris that I freely admit, should have been done years ago. I will list what I want to do and hope that some of you can please help me out.

First, I want to put in new headlights and tail lights to go with the new paint job. I could go stock, but I would really like to dress up my Yaris a bit. I could really use some help choosing these. I would also like to note that I live in California, so I really am looking for something that is not only legal here, but stricrly plug and play, without having to do any cutting or splicing of wires.

Second, I would like to put in a short shift or quickshifter kit. I need help choosing this component as well. I am mechanically savvy so I just need help in selecting what is best. Not sure if this info is necessary, but I have a Yaris with the rubber shift boot. I may or may not want to change that out for a leather one. Not sure yet.

Third, I want to put in a high performance clutch and do some work with my suspension. Any help here would be great as well.

Lastly, I have no idea where the best sites are to find TRD or good aftermarket parts for my Yaris. Any help here with links and such would really help me out.

Thank you so much for reading. I look forward to your replies!

I can relate to your situation. Although I got wheels and tires just 3 months into owning my '07, I didn't do most of my mods until just the last few years.

As far as head and tail lights go, I'm not a fan of the various aftermarket tails that are out there. I've considered the altezza style lights, but just think it's too much of a fast n furious look. I think OEM or JDM look best. If they're cloudy from years of sun beating, you can easily buff them and have them clear coated (which is what I did) and they'll look brand new and won't yellow up again. Just something to consider.

I don't have experience with short shift kits, but I did swap the shift knob and rubber boot and feel it makes a huge difference. The super cheap looking rubber boot was one of my biggest gripes with the interior of these cars and going with an aluminum knob and leather boot made a big impact to me. There's a pic of mine in my garage if you'd like to take a look.

It's no secret that I'm not the most mechanically inclined guy on this forum, but I think you'd get more from an under drive pulley set than a stage 2 clutch. As far as suspension goes, there is a variety of coil over options available to you. If you want to save a few bucks, you can go with lowering springs, which again, is what I did. You can check out the thread below for shock/strut options to pair with springs if you go that route. Folks around the forum swear by the rear sway bar, too.

I'm sure others can help more with links/sites to buy TRD and other parts from, but being careful you can find good stuff on Amazon, eBay and I hear RockAuto.com is good, although I've never used it.

Looking forward to pics of your car and build progress
