I'm not too worried about getting searched. The cops probably don't even know that behind the tach is a storage compartment. Anyhow, I like the look and prefer the larger tach for visibility. Cheers.

why not just swap out the stock gauge cluster for the one from a sedan with a tach already in it??
just questioning for to discuss the difficulties behind it, not to say you didnt do a good job with a clean after market install. |

Cost, the aftermarket gauge is a whole lot cheaper than any Toyoto gauge. My set up, It's kinda like the Mini cooper style. Sporty. I DIY soon. Thx.

Can't swap gauges from a sedan, there are too many variations of the harness according to Toyota. Believe me the question has been asked many times by many people and nobody has had any luck with an alternative yet short of an aftermarket tach, bums me out too. I still have to decide how I'm going to mold in my tach, I have a prototype but did quite like how it fit.

Passin' The Gas...Station

Need to get one from an old Pontiac GTO/Judge. They mounted outside the car on the hood and had the same half-oval shape our dash/speedo housing has. I've seen them in a JC Whitney Mag not to long ago but not sure if it's able to be wired into the electronics. Would look good as a "bump" on the hood.
Someone will figure it out. Chuck

I like it. Thats a clean looking install. I installed mine on top of the drivers side vent, and it allows me to still use the storage compartment; but to each his own. Good job, man! Keep it up.

I mounted a 5" tach in the same place, but mine is much more slender (Faze, not Autometer) so I can still open the door behind it. I liked the look of the Autometer tach, but the Faze fit better. I'll post pictures if anyone is interested.
