Headlight wattages - Toyota Yaris Forums

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen headlights be 55/65 watts before. I thought it was like 55/60. I know our stocks are 55/60 watts but some new lights I wanna try out are 55/65 watts so the girl says. Would the highs being 65 watts be ok for the stock harness, and what does everyone think the highest watt rating can be before ya fry the stock headlight harness??

i would stick to no more than the 55/60...

I was just curious if the lady didnt mean 55/60 and put 55/65. They said the lights would not fry the harness because they are stock wattage. So then I am guessing that 55/60 watts is a standard wattage for H4 bulbs.

If you use the higher wattage bulbs like the 55/65, also consider upgrading your stock harness.

You beat me to it! That's exactly what I plan on doing. I'll be pairing the harnesses with a set of Nokya Cosmic White bulbs.

you really think 5 extra watts on the HIGH beam will fry your harness??
you are putting 0.416666666666 amps extra load on the harness... :O

The bulbs I'll be using are 90/100 so yeah I think I'll need them, the original poster should be fine by only upping like 5 watts

OK guys listen up,Ive been running 90w/100w with 15amp fuses instead of the stock 10amp for about 2 years now,no harness has been fried.I did blow several stock fuses,when I switched to high beam,they would blow.So I uped the amp on the fuse,witch will feed more current to the lights,but nothing has fried,I have a 1 hour trip every morning with both fog and head lights on with no problems.

I got the lights today and they are 55/60 watts. In one of my trucks I used a 90/100 watt light bulb and burned up the pigtail, but I also didnt upgrade to the thicker wire harnesses so I dont know if it was due to heat or the extra draw. I seen on some sites that sell like the 90/100 watt bulbs they also sell the thicker gauge wires to.

Sorry,but I mis-spoke,the higher amp fuse was able to take the extra current being drown from the lights,without blowing,yes the harness will get hot,but its a 16gauge wire if Im not wrong,that will handle a 20amp fuse.

increasing the wattage means you have to change from a plastic socket to ceramic socket.. and of course you should change the wire harness..

im using Wurth all weather 90/100 nothing seems to be a problem

i've used 90/100w on my ECHO for a while, but i didn't have any problems. but it doesn't stop the CHANCES are higher to fry the harness.

if the connection is just a little loose, then there will be a problem. you will see after a few times you've changed the bulbs...
