interior lighting problem tied with headlights
Okay first I would like to tell you these probelms started to occur right after I came back from the dealership from a free 1000 mile check up. I know If I go back to the dealership they can fix it for free, but if it is a simple fuse fix then I would not like to drive back there.
My dash lights do not come on and it sucks driving at night. Also secondly what i found wierd was, the led back lighting for the radio and for the clock comes on when the headlights are off but when I turn on the headlights they turn off automatically, which makes driving at night even worse. I have a feeling this is not a fuse problem but thought I'd ask anyways. It seems like a switch or ecu problem. Do I have to drive a 45 mile round trip just to get this fixed, I just came back today from there :( I used to have access to toyota wiring diagrams but not anymore so it kinda sucks not being able to pinpoint the problem yourself. |

Did you check and see that the dimmer knob was not all the way into the clicked position?
My 2007 is that way. In the click position the dash lights act the way you are describing. |

+1 on the dimmer knob. It's something that might have gotten bumped.
My parents were having issues with their Taurus being dim, and that was also the culprit. Remember too, that the instrument panel lights get dimmer when the headlights are on. So, again, I would check that dimmer pot on the left of your dashboard. |

thanks it was the dimmer. Driving a 1990 240sx for 4 years now I didn't comprehend, at the moment, the effects the headlight and dimmer have on led backlighted clock and radio screen. Now I feel stupid. Thanks though, saved me a phone call to the dealership who would've thought I was a retard.
