Should I just buy coilovers instead?

I've searched and read up a lot about suspension, but I need some confirmation on my possible decision.

I want a ride that's a little stiffer than stock and a drop of 1.5"-1.8" NOT REAL STIFF and bouncy.

I went on microimage and added to the cart; tokico shocks, eibach sportline springs, and a 23mm rear sway bar. It came out to be $734 without including tax.

I am wondering if I should just buy a set of coilovers for $100+ more and call it a day. My budget is really set at $800ish and if I get coils, I won't be spending on the sway.

I really just want a ride that would not break my back, but sporty feel, and can take corners without body roll like its on rails Maybe better than my old NA miata? haha

I've never ridden in any yaris with suspension mods, so I have no clue what anything feels like. So what should I do?

I have run coils on a few of the cars that I have owned and loved to hate them.

When I ran my car as a DD I hated it, but when I wanted to run dumped I loved it..

You would still need the 23mm rear sway coils are not going to come with this stock. so that would still be on top of the 800-1000.

I'm not sure what you mean 1.5. I said IF I buy coilovers, I won't buy the sway bar. If I am going with the shock/spring combo, I am going to get the sway bar.

I had tein springs (2 inch drop all around)... with stock shocks.... eventually wanted a lower drop... went with tanabe coilovers (2.5-3 inch drop I think all around)

I was happy with both of them. Neither of them ride rough or bouncy... depends if you want adjustability/ lower at some point and pay for a sway bar later...... otherwise just get the spring/shock/sway bar setup....


I have yet to buy a rear sway bar -_-'

I'd go with stiff springs (I believe the H&R's are), great struts/shocks and you'll be good.

You don't really want coilovers on a daily.

Well here is a great way to look at this....

Buy the coils and then save a bit and get the 23mm rear sway.The two together will be very nice.

Are you still on those stock shocks or did they eventually blow?

I would use the stock shocks if they don't blow quickly. I'm trying to go the cheapest way possible..

Go with springs on stock shocks and save your money and then get coils. You'll get to test the drop on everyday and you won't have to drop so much money up front.

Best bet is to get coilovers with strut/shock length adjustability in addition to pre-load (spring perch) adjustability (with dampening adjustability). Adjust only the shock length and don't touch the pre-load. Set the dampening to soft to medium, and you'll have a nice ride.

i have the tein basic coils.. great on a dd, handles awesome.. im about 3/4 low on the front & slammed on the rear cuz i pulled my back seat... i ride as a daily driver.. including my journey tof/rom work... 30+ miles on 91/5 fwys...goin 60+ round an on or offramp.. so fun.. not sure how the ride would be on springs.. but i love my coilovers :)

If money is an issue it doesn't make much sense to buy a complete suspension setup as a "test", only to spend double when you realize you want better handling.

I bought (new) factory struts/shocks, Tanabe DF springs and the rear sway...after less than a year my car is literally sitting in the garage right now and I am swapping the suspension out for the KIDO coilovers that Garm carries. I should be wrapping the install up tonight.

sf street is pretty smooth eh ? I had the stock struts + the tanabe df210 springs + 23mm sway bar and then changed it to the Tanabe Coilover ....never regret the decision. the coilover is a little bit harsh on the street road but it's actualy less bumpy, and I also has an 18" wheels to make it worse...

plus on the coilover, you can adjust the height to your liking.

I also have the Tanabe coilovers, I've not had them for very long but I can already tell you they are silky smooth on the road and do increase the handling a lot.

I also have the 23mm RSB though, and that makes a difference too, however I felt a much bigger difference when I installed the coilovers as compared to when I just installed the sway bar.

I say save up for the coilovers, you won't regret it.
