They want my Yaris....

The dealer I bought my Yaris from has sent me around 5-10 email and letters stating they want to buy my Yaris back from me. I guess demand for used Yari is pretty high. Anyone else getting these?

I don't know that it's so much a demand issue as it is a sales issues. I get these for my Tundra and Yaris all the time. They just want you to come in and get a new car. I could be wrong but that's what I assume.

It is a typical sales tactic to get you to "trade-up" to the newer model year.

THIS in Red. It is a well known tactic at this point. Most of these dealers will try and get you to come in for 2 reasons:

1) They think they can "upgrade" or upsell you to a new vehicle
2) With the fact that gas has stayed above $3.50/gal they think they can get you to trade your vehicle for less than what you really should and turn it around to make a better profit than what they make on certain vehicles on the initial sale.

The Yaris barely made any profit for dealers on initial sales due to how aggressively the 07-09/10 models were being sold.

Simple

The used car market is better than new right now, and used cars are much more profitable than new car sales are for the dealers.

Add in economical cars like the Yaris and the demand is very, very strong.

Keeping your Yaris yours is money in the bank! Your bank.

It's not just Toyota, the Honda dealership where we bought our van seven years ago is still sending us letters wanting to buy it back and (bit surprise here!) sell us a new one in the process.

I'm not one to trade cars in every few years, I plan to keep most of our vehicles for at least ten years if not longer. I see no problem in doing that with my Yaris!

Cheers! M2

The dealer try get you in there and rape you off. This is all about marketing and business strategy. The dealer said will give you high price. If you read the small words on the letter, you will find out why.

With just a little over 15,000 miles on the odometer, I traded in my 2010 Yaris for a 2012 Yaris today. They gave me $6,500 for my 2010 Yaris and applied that to my 2012 Yaris. So, I'll just have a couple of years of payments for my 2012. No biggie.
Ha. Just joking. I'm driving my 2010 Yaris until the wheels fall off. That sucker is paid for now, and there's no way I'm parting with it.

The fact is, any new car dealer makes more money selling used cars than they do selling new cars. So, they want every customer to trade in their car as it a win/win siutation for them. They make a big profit reselling your trade in and get to sell you a new car.
They send the same "buy back" letter to all customers no mater what model car they purchased

Why do they even sell new cars? A brand specific sevice dept is the biggest money maker of all!

That's funny. I said I would drive my Camry until the engine died. When it does, I'll just walk away straight to a dealer and buy a new car. That's exactly what happen. I went to pick up my wife, and heard noises from the engine. I took it in and he said the engine will die real soon. A lady told me her son is a Toyota dealer, and I should see him rather then pay $2500 for a used engine. So while I was going back to pick up my wife, and planning to go straight to the dealer, the engine died. I called my daughter and said please pick me up at this address and we'll pick up your mother. We went directly to the dealer leaving the car right where it was. Had it towed to my house the next day. Lol. The Dealer wouldn't take it as a trade in. Go figure.
. That sucker is paid for now, and there's no way I'm parting with it.

I agree. In addition, Toyota dealers usually make less money selling a new Yaris than other Toyota products because: 1. The mark up percentage on a Yaris is less than on other Toyotas. 2. The overall cost the mark up percentage is taken from is usually the lowest to begin with because the Yaris (at least in the U.S.) is the least expensive car in Toyota's stable. 3. The Yaris buyer pool consists of: A. People who find it is the best option they can afford in a new car and B. Cheap/Thrifty/Careful/Frugal people who can afford a more expensive new car, but like the Yaris for the same reason Group A does... and we want what we want (at the lowest possible price).
