Dabuu's NCP131
Car guy problems.
When you have the parts, but don't even have the car yet. Hey guys, my name is Davis. I've always wanted an NCP91 Yaris, but I'm now looking to buy a 3rd gen Yaris. This'll be my build thread whenever I buy it. Hopefully, the info here will be of use. But of course, this is where I'll pic whore because pic whore. The parts in the above picture: Netz Front Emblem - 75301-52100 TRD Drop In Air Filter - PTR43-00072 Tanabe Exhaust - T70121A TRD Japan Quick Shifter - MS205-52003 *Note: Since I don't have the car, I have no way to verify if some of these parts fit. I've been researching past threads on fitment and I've been cross referencing parts between US and Japan 2012-2016 cars. Pics of my past rides: 2003 ZZW30 2ZZ-GE Swapped MR2 Spyder: 2000 UZS160 5MT Swapped GS400 Current Daily: 2014 ZVW41W Prius v Three: I'm not new to modifying cars, but I am new to the Yaris chassis. I'll do my best to use the search function, so please don't be too harsh when I do ask a question lol. Prius is a nice daily, but I'm itching to get back into an MT! Wheels and Suspension are on order, stay tuned!

That MR2 looks phenomenal!! And how do you juice up a Prius? Bigger electric motors, batteries, custom firmware?
BTW for maximum sporty fun factor, I would recommend the 2nd generation Yaris over the 3rd gen. Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk |

Main reason why I'm going with a 2015+ model vs 2007-2011. - SE; I want a 4 door, I want a manual trans, rear disc brakes, projector headlamp, and foglights. - Longer wheel base. - Lower roofline/lower drag coefficient. - Midcycle refresh looks nice inside and out. I love how angry it looks! Plus it's just newer, can't beat that piece of mind knowing it won't need anything.

You may find a few manual transmission SE in the entire US. (Less than a handful) Or see if Kalispel is willing to sell his car. So funny to see parts piling up for a vehicle you don't have yet. What commitment!

NCP131 TRD Quick Shifter
In case anyone wanted to see how the TRD QS looked. It's a full shift cage replacement.
I bought a QS because I had one on my MR2 and it greatly improved the shift feel. I hope it goes the same with the Yaris. So stoked that I can reuse my TRD Duracon Shift Knob that was on my MR2.

Thanks! Hopefully I don't disappoint!

Lol yeah, I figured I'd order the parts so I can commit to the Yaris. Yaris parts are so much cheaper than my past projects, so it doesn't feel as big of a hit! Just a few more parts and I should be done. All my past projects were....well just that, projects. I'm trying to stay true to the "Keep It Simple Stupid" philosophy, so I can enjoy the car instead of having it on jack stands during half of my ownership.

Any idea if that QS would be compatible with the 1NR FE 6 speed gear box?

I'm interested in seeing the TRD shifter body vs the stock. I went with a TWM short throw arm and the MicroImage engine bay short throw bracket. VERY short throws!

It was fun chasing faster cars down, the only downside was the nanny systems getting in the way!! Quote:
I'll definitely take some pictures of them side by side though. I'm not after super short throws, I'm just looking to tighten things up. Now there's a familiar face from TMT!

Some new goodies came in. I've been debating between going Coilovers or Lowering Springs and Strut/Shock combo. I ended up deciding on the latter, I mean for the price of cheap coilovers, you can buy a legit setup.
Bilstein B8 Performance (NCP91 '07-'11) I couldn't find any reviews on these specifically on the Yaris chassis, but I've heard many good things about them on other vehicles, so I didn't spend too much time on here researching it...impulse buy lol. The B8s are designed to be used with lowering springs and the dampening is fixed. I'll be pairing these up with some RS*R Sus Down Springs specifically for the NCP131 which lowers the car: F: 30mm - 25mm / 1.2in - 1.0in R: 25mm - 20mm / 1.0in - 0.8in F: 2.80kg/mm R: 2.85kg/mm So why did I decide against coilovers? Simply put, I want to enjoy the car. My previous projects had coilovers, they're nice with all the adjustability, but I kept finding myself going as low as I can just because I could. I knew it hurted performance, but damn it looked sick. And 32way adjustment? Awesome. I'll just go full stiff and never touch them again. Even if I was trying to dial the car at the track I didn't know what I was doing. For all I knew I probably was fighting the car with every change I made. Throw adjustability out the window, and then you can just focus on the driver, no other variable from ride height, spring preload, dampner setting, etc. Yeah, I want to become a better driver too. What better way than to go back to the basics!

New stuff.
RS*R Down Sus Lowering Springs. Part #: T345DF F: 30mm - 25mm / 1.2in - 1.0in R: 25mm - 20mm / 1.0in - 0.8in F: 2.80kg/mm R: 2.85kg/mm Packaging wasn't so good, the springs were rubbing each other the entire way from Japan, there's no bare metal showing, but the powder coat is pretty marred up. Oh well, it's only cosmetic. An oldie, but goodie. Enkei RPF1 15x7 +41 in Black. 9.6 lbs each I don't care how played out these wheels are. I've always wanted a set (I love how cheap 15" wheels are ). I was never fond of black wheels, but I've been getting lazy with cleaning off the brake dust on my previous car. So I figured why not, at least it won't be too noticeable if I did take too long to clean them. I'm on the fence, but really leaning towards some 205/50s. Wide contact patch and it'll lower the car .3". We'll see once I take the car out to the track. Even though I have most of the mods, I'm not planning to throw them all on at once. I'd like to get used to the stock set up before I touch anything. The mods will progress in stages.

RPF1's are still one of the lightest 15s on the market. I love mine paired with 195/50 RE11a tires. Rim and tire weigh in together at 32lbs.
