vinyl overlays

would anybody be interested in vinyl overlays? like for your headlights, taillights or trim. i want to get a list going and see if i can talk this company to producing them for out yarii (liftback and sedan) and hopefully he can be a sponsor. you can check out his store at http://www.bluebatmobile.net to see his work. vinyl overlays are an inexpensive compared to getting fiberglass, abs plastic, etc. so what so you?

I like how the Z has vinyl in those cutouts near the Gages... I think that would look good in our Vent/cup holder area!

I'd probably have to see them in person to know for sure if they looked okay to use, but I sure don't mind the idea of covering up that nasty silver plastic surrounding the AC controls and stereo.

You can buy self-adhesive vinyl in any color or print you could think of and do that. People wrap their entire dashes in that stuff.

I'm not sold on the vinyl idea yet. It seems like it would look cheaper than true ABS plastic, plus it wouldn't match the rest of the trim on the car. I'm on the fence. Someone prove me wrong.

I can only assume touches would be alright... but the whole dash...

Eww!

I have to practice on my Spay Can Technique... and just paint the parts I want!

I am actually a fan of vinyl dashes when done correctly. 99% of vinyl dashes you'll see on the road were impulse decisions made by ricers, and they look freaking horrible. However, when done correctly vinyl dashes can make the interior look downright luxurious. There is nothing like getting into a car with a pristine white vinyl dash. That shit is hard as hell to keep clean, but if you do, it'll drop your jaw. Getting this done at a shop can be expensive, but to some its worth it. I for one would kill to see a dark gray/navy blue vinyl dash in my Yaris to match the theme carried out by the seat stitching and the carpet.

The good news is its removable. Paint isn't, and I'm sorry to all of you that did paint your dash... you don't have to agree... but painted dashes are just plain tacky. At best. Painting the silver trim around the CD player I can live with, but some people get WAY too carried away. Changing your dash color should be something that is well thought out. You can tell right away when you hop into a car where someone impulsively painted their dash. Don't be "that guy." Do your homework, prep surfaces properly, give yourself more than an afternoon, and for christs sake... think it through. Play around in photoshop before you play around in your car.

And I'm sorry for getting way . I just had to vent.

Do the vinyl overlays for headlights look as awful in person as I assume they must?

in the day time they look good, but at night they get a little see thru. so most people put a double layer.

how does this not look good.

and for all those people who wanted smoked taillights

its not as time consuming as painting and less mess. im trying to get this company to be a sponsor but i guess all my efforts are not making any progress. im really interested in getting either redout or smoked tail lights and maybe the double layer eyelids.

I can't say I love the tails, but those headlights do look very nice in the photo. Is that the 30% smoke or the 60%? I'd be willing to give that a try on my Yaris, once I get the windows tinted (still haven't decided whether to go with a mild 50 or all the way to 35, which is the legal limit here).

Tell your friend at Bluebatmobile that interest usually follows the product, not the other way around.

In other words, if he builds it, we will come.

Screw vinyl... I just want a leather-upholstered dashboard... Black with red stitching to complement my wheel and shift boot
