Question Handheld modifiers vs in-line

I love my Yaris but let's be realistic -- the mid range grunt just isn't there.

I've seen this various EBay based ads claiming in line performance chips will add 50 hp but I know these are usually nothing but somewhat dangerous modifiers that confuse the ECU into thinking the engine has more hp than it really does.

I've also seen TV tests of handheld programmers such as the Bully Dog, but these are usually for trucks and diesels. These can be safer since they have limitations; however, does such a handheld programmer exist for the Yaris?

If anybody knows of a safe in line chip, I'll listen to recommendations on those too!

Thanks

nothing as of yet, nothing expected either. I wouldnt get your hopes up honestly. Garm (Caliyaris) bought an ebay chip for sh*ts and giggles and it did absolutely nothing. He then tore it apart to find out what was inside it i believe. Plain old "radio shack" resistor. Save up a few bucks and get some legit power adders, ie I/H/E Pullies. Not that much $ and noticeable power with great reviews for most. Plus numerous vendors on here with the goods!

I was afraid of that, but pulleys are out since I'm still under warranty so I may have to be satisfied with a less restrictive exhaust and my K&N filter at this time.

Guess I shouldn't bitch too much, I'm getting close to 40 mpg and the acceleration isn't that bad.

An ebay chip will void your warranty before pulleys will.

Pullies won't effect your waranty in any way , unles they are not installed properly , and well worth the bang for buck.

there's a really thin line for those who really want to put serious hp or NOT and that my friend is the warranty.

the only thing i'd void out for warranty being a toyota tech would be the alt/ps/ac system, not engine.

however, if the pulley was the same size as stock and not the same material i'd have no reason to void your warranty.

so if ur worried about your warranty stay away from underdrive.
