Yaris Vs Fit - guessed who won ?
I did a drag race with a friend today.
Yaris 1.5 VVTi automatic vs Honda Fit/Jazz 1.5 VTEC CVT box . Both stock. Guessed who won ? Initially... 0-30mph, neck and neck , Yaris edging slightly . 30mph onwards, no fight, the Fit took off, from 6 feet behind, it surged to a car length in front by 60mph. I tried 2 runs, same results. I like the quality of the Fit better too. It was much much much smoother. But the yaris had a better steering feel. Handling wise, the yaris felt like it turned alot easier. |

It's got VTEC, yo!
Probably had a few extra stickers too, that must have helped

Actually what gave the Fit the advantage was the CVT transmission. I had one (Civic HX CVT) and it was slow off the line but right around 30-40MPH that thing would start kicking ass. Thats because it has reached the max torque RPMs and the CVT is changing gear ratios continuously to go faster, where all 5 speeds and autos need to shift gears back below the max torque range. Really bizarre that you are flooring a car and the RPMs stop at around 5500 but the car just keeps accelerating faster and faster. Strange but true. I wish they could make really strong CVT trannys for High HP engines. That would rock!
We don't have the CVT Fits over here in the US of A, so we can kick thier asses... I think.

It would be interesting to pit a manual Fit/Jazz 1.5 VTEC with a Yaris 1.5..... has anyone done it?

But one thing I have to say, the gearbox on the Honda is waaaay nicer than ours... The shifter is very short, and goes into each gear very easily yet solidly. Heh maybe someday I'll get a friend to rent a manual Fit and we can do some more extensive research

I test drove both the auto and standard yaris... couldn't tell much of a difference on either one... but then again, I think the fit with CVT would beat a good driver in a standard yaris even. The CVT tranny makes a big difference in the butt dyno with these little cars, I've driven a few in Japan.

A manual trans Yaris would have done much better. Automatics = less usable power and inferior MPG.
