So how 'bout that Ecometer by Auto meter?
This gauge looks neat http://www.autometer.com/ecometer/ Wonder what controls the bar lighting up, throttle position? for a pure hypermilling standpoint id get it, its a shame the KIWI MPG is having issues from reviews i read, good compareable price and has check engine tool.
Get it here for cheapest price so far: http://www.fixthisride.com/showprodu...prod_id=233052 Last edited by ezhacker1; 08-04-2009 at 11:19 PM. |

There was another post about this same device. One member attempted to order it, but then had his money refunded because the device simply wasn't available.

SodiumDuck and I both ordered them back in March. I got a call the next day from the place we ordered them from saying that they didn't actually have them in stock and that they didn't know when the would. I spoke to the manufacturer and they said that it was still in the final phases of development and would hopefully be shipping by the end of April. I ended up buying a used ScanGauge instead, but the ecometer, although less functional, has a bit more style.
I just checked with JEGS (who I buy a lot of parts from) today and they actually have 12 of them in stock ($69.99 each). http://www.jegs.com/i/Auto%20Meter/1...0002/-1?CT=999 |

They have a one page .pdf file with the very simple install pics. Wow, what a great gadget for cheap, eh? If you have an Adobe reader, here's the file link. --> http://www.jegs.com/InstallationInst...5/105-9100.pdf

I just ordered one of these from Summit Racing-74.95 shipped (Happy Father's day to me !). I'll report back after I get to try it out. One thing that really appealed to me was the fact this includes a digital tach for those of us with non S trim.

That was kind of the selling point for me. I read up a little more and found that it has 4 settings. One for instantaneous mpg, average mpg, digital tach, and digital speedo. All 4 settings have the mpg bars that light up on the edge. es lyke...pretty cool for $69 + s/h =O =P |

Very cool! I'm using the very same techniques as in the video. Would be nice to see my actual driving fuel consumption using this devise. Is that the ODB Port next to the interior hood pop-up latch on the Yaris?

Got mine!
Got my ecometer today! I only had the oportunity to drive about 20 miles but my initial experiences have been very favorable.
Install was all of 60 seconds. I plugged it into the OBD connector and mounted it on the driver's side A pillar. The wire I tucked in along the trim, down the side of the dash. When you turn on the key it does it's thing and that's it. The display is very easy to read despite it's small size and the brightness is adjustable. I was quite amazed how many bars on the ecoguage I could eliminate WITHOUT losing any speed on hills, etc by letting up on the accelerator a notch or two (fewer bars=higher mpg). You can even see the affect of a cold engine on fuel economy. It's kind of fun to crest a hill, let off completely and watch DFCO get you 160 mpg+ lol! TBD is the accuracy of the avg mpg reading which I'll update on later. I'm optimistic given what I've seen so far and it can be adjusted if necessary. Very pleased so far! Note-In my post above I typo-ed the price-it was actually 79.95 inc S/H. Sorry! R2 |
