2000 R.P.M Vibration
I don't know if its my Megan muffler but at around 2000 rpm while car is stationary it feels like there is a engine miss and I can feel vibration through the seat, as the rpm increases it goes away around 2800 rpm. Has anyone else tried reving the engine at a stop and noticed the vibration/miss at 2000 rpm? Could the valve timing have anything to do with this ? Any help would be appreciated. I dont have anyone around to check as the engine mounts flex under load if the exhaust makes contact with the body, which would make the same vibration through the seat and chassis.

if your car is actually misfiring, you'll throw a CEL

Try running injector cleaner in your gas. I had an 80's Corolla that would run rough at certain RPMs and the injector cleaner would clear it up.
Use the good stuff. The cheap stuff is just that, cheap stuff. |

To answer your questions, if you have a keen eye for how your engine runs it can save you lots of money in the long run. Most people would not even notice the miss but over time it will take it's toll on the engine.
Not all misses are caught by the ecu, I used to see a lot oiled guaze filters suck oil upstream and coat the MAF, then there would be uneven running and no codes thrown. I have a AEM with a dry flow filter so theres no oil there but I may have dust or debris somewhere. I checked to make sure the muffler and exhaust is not rubbing under the car under load and it is not, I think I will take apart the intake and clean the components and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion of the Fuel system treatment , if you have moisture in the fuel you can have rough running and again no codes thrown, I put in a premium German made, TUV approved product I distribute that has a water remover included, as the vehicle has been parked all winter. I still have the miss. If anyone has the AEM intake please check for 2000 rpm hesitation. I will keep you posted what the problem is. |

quit buying junk AEM and buy a good quality intake like injen

It might just be a harmonic vibration that you otherwise would not notice while running through 2k rpm. I notice a little bit of a burble at 2 grand, but nothing serious. Also, if it were a miss, I would think that it would appear in a more general band of RPM's (Say lower rev band or higher revband), but not at a specific rpm.

I get the same tremble around 1900rpm. Been there since I first got the car new years ago. I don't think its a problem, well according to themaster tech at toyota its not. Yet I can not believe them most of the time since they are only after money.

Thanks for the feedback on other cars that have a harmonic vibration at 2000 rpm. Yes harmonic vibration is better terminology to a miss. At 2000 rpm you can actually feel it in the seat.

My cars close to 48,000miles now. I tried doing that today and it would not vibrate around 2000rpm. Maybe because the car was cold? Who knows, I dont worry about it anymore.

with a miss I would be more worried about the cat. however i would doubt it being a miss, as tamago mentioned it would throw a CEL for that. Most likely it would be something that revs with the engine, pulleys, balancer. How bad is the vibration? it could be the reverberations through the muffler as well as it is a diff freq then the stock reverb.

Tommorow I will clean out the TB and intake, if that does not fix it I will remove the Megan exhaust, if that does not work I will remove the AEM and put on the stock air box, Good tip on the pulleys, I will also look for play in the water pump, Pulleys etc. I will keep you posted.
Thanks for your suggestions |

Just don't over-tighten the belt, as that could kill the water pump shaft seal.

Well I found the MAF safe cleaner from CRC and I cleaned the throttle body there was a build up of dust etc at the butterfly, it seems to run a bit smoother with better response. I still have the harmonic vibration at 2000 rpm, I ran out of time to pull the muffler but that will be next, if that fails I will look at the h20 pump and belt tensioners etc, Thanks for the belt tension tip.
