What did you trade in for your Yaris?
Like it says on the tin. What did you trade in to purchase your Yaris? Why? What are the last 5 cars you had before the Yaris?
I traded in a BMW 325i, charcoal grey metallic. The Bimmer was an awesome drive, but I kept having idle issues with it and I wanted something small and tossable that got awesome gas mileage. 1. 2001 BMW 325i 2. 2003 Mustang GT 3. 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 4. 1990 Mazda Miata 5. 2001 Mazda Miata So what's your story? |

1. 1996 VW Passat GLX wagon
2. 1986 BMW 320i M (German specs) 3. 1985 BMW 318i (German specs) 4. 1989 Acura Integra 5. 1985 Honda Accord hatchback The Passat, while an excellent car, was getting on in age and I didn't want to dump a lot of money into it. I picked the Yaris because I liked the one on the TV show 'Psych' so I started doing some research on the car. I ended up getting a sedan as a rental in Tampa for a week, and liked it so much I decided to get a liftback (I prefer hatches). I still love the car, and hope to have it at least ten years if not longer. I don't put a lot of miles on Sprocket since I also have a Jeep and a minivan, plus a couple of motorcycles; but so far it's holding up pretty well! Cheers! M2

Became a money pit - every trip to the shop was another $1000 in repairs. So excited to have something small, good on gas, MT, and cheap to maintain! |

didn't trade in anything. Bought the car cash, then sold my previous car for twice what the dealer wanted to give me for it. Imbeciles.
1999 Saab Viggen 1994 Ford Taurus SHO 1986 Saab 9000 Those are the only cars I've owned. My father tends to have a fleet of cars, so i can always borrow one if I need to.

Cash.
Bought it when gas was getting close to $5/gal because my other vehicle ('97 Wrangler) gets about 13mpg. Previously: '97 Wrangler (best all around vehicle I've owned) '89 Colt (the Yaris reminded me a lot of this) '68 Beetle (awesome) '75 Capri (piece of crap but lots of power) '66 Beetle (awesome) |

1990 Toy PU 4x4 short bed, I had a boo-boo accident. I was short of cash to get fixed. Front end was rubbing the front tires. I weighed my opinions, so I was introduced to a Toyota Sales Manger. He was able to get me the max trade-in value. I always did like the the Yaris styling and besides that I worked for two different delivery companies as a dispatcher. Both companies used Yaris'
Hence, my trade-in story. |

A 2001 Suzuki Swift 3 door Hatch (that I purchased new at almost 20 % under factory sticker on a Labor Day ad in San Jose, CA). Same body style as the 3rd generation Metro (also 1995-2001) and the Pontiac Firefly. Suzuki only put the 4 cylinder engine in it (I think some Metros with that body style had a 3 cylinder engine). My car was built in Canada. I got about the same MPG as I do in my Yaris. I got rear ended at a stop light by a 4-Door F-150 when the car had about 60k on it (If I remember correctly). The car held up amazingly well in the accident and was repared in a competent manner.
I paid cash for my Yaris. When I bought the Yaris, the Swift had 151K+ miles on it (and had only needed a clutch adjustment, a brake job, 2 sets of new tires, a replacement battery, and oil and filter changes, (if I remember correctly)). I was on a long trip (about 4 months in Canada and then a bit of time in the NE and Great Lakes areas in the U.S.) before the Yaris purchase and thought before the trip that I might need to replace the car before the end of the trip. I had already identified the Yaris as my choice. Some of the roads in Newfoundland really did a number on my steering rack. I was heading from Boston to Springfield on the Turnpike and realized I only had a few hundred more safe miles left in the car. I eventually located my Yaris in Rhode Island. The Toyota dealer didn't want the car (the blue book value was literally zero and obviously private party was out of the question as I was 3,000 miles from California), but a wholesaler just happened to be in the dealership getting a part and bought the Swift from me for $50.00 (with an agreement to let me rip out the aftermarket stereo). The end of that day was kind of odd. The wholesaler was going to pick up the car the next day, but had already paid me for it and I'd signed over the title. The dealership closed for the night right after my Yaris was delivered to me. I left the key to the Swift with them and I was allowed to be on the lot after everyone had gone home to finish ripping the aftermarket stereo (head unit, JL Audio amp, Monster Cable wiring, etc.) out of the Swift. Several staff members at the dealership told me not to worry about being hassled by any LEOs for being on the lot after hours . Last edited by nookandcrannycar; 02-22-2013 at 04:27 AM. Reason: oops - forgot to add replaced battery (re work done on Swift) |
